Hey Lurkers…Come Out of the Closet, Already!

Posted on November 30th, 2007 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

I know you are there. I see it in my stats. Several hundred readers a day, and only a few comments (holla backs) per post?

I am very curious to know what I could do to get you to introduce yourselves and to tell me why you haven’t done so thus far. Please let me know who you are and what you are all about so that I can chat to ya in my posts!

Hugs, and thanks for putting up with my random curiosity.

I can’t remember how I found your site, but I’ve been reading for months — I admire your skill with the camera (your photos are fabulous!) and I’m hoping someday I can shoot pictures like you do. :-)

Kelley Nov 30th, 2007 at 4:19 pm

I’m here :-) I comment sometimes!!

My name is Allison Lawless and I’m a lurker! Hi Kate! Long time! I do love to pop into your blog and see your latest creations! I’ll have a new website up (and a blog) in a couple weeks - I’ll share w/ you when it’s up and going.

Monica Nov 30th, 2007 at 6:23 pm

I’m one of your blog stalkers! LOL… love your work and really enjoy your blog. I hope to someday be as great of a photographer as you! Happy Holidays!

Hilary Nov 30th, 2007 at 6:24 pm

I am totally bored at work, so I lurk on a lot of websites! Your photos are awesome! I look forward to seeing your amazing work each day. Thanks for sharing your talent with me. I check regularly, because like I said, I’m BORED!!!

Leslie Nov 30th, 2007 at 6:27 pm

I’ll admit that I’m a lurker. I really enjoy your blog. I just never know what to say in a comment. I can try to do better though. I love to glean inspiration from your blog!

JulieAnn Nov 30th, 2007 at 7:15 pm

Aloha! I’m a lurker, I’ll admit it. I have no idea how I found your site, but I love it and it has found a place in my Google reader. I love how you capture a person’s personality in each shot. Plus your pictures are just plain gorgeous! I’m currently living in Nashville, TN.

Hannah Jones Nov 30th, 2007 at 7:53 pm

Nana (aka Kay Morgan one of the grandmothers) Dec 1st, 2007 at 12:01 am

Absolutely loved the pics! I sent the site to a BUNCH of folks I work with (Frisco High School). We ALL agreed that miss Bailey is the most beautiful baby and you really captured the love that my precious daughter and precious son-in-law have for her. Thanks for your wonderful eye!

Kerri Banyas Dec 1st, 2007 at 1:34 pm

HI! I used to always come to your site–then i was busy and now I have found my way back to read your amazing blog—and yes I am out of the lurker closet giving you a holla back! I love your work and your commitment to being exactly who you are! Keep it up!

Dustin Steller Dec 6th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

I lurk quietly in the shadows of the web to follow your hilarious antics and the sound of your wonderful accent. I’d comment more often, but I am so friggin busy I can barely keep up with my Google Reader feeds. Love ya, girly!

Bailey, I Knew You When You Were In Your Mommy’s Tummy

Posted on November 29th, 2007 by Kate. Filed in Families, Babies

Just before Turkey Day, I had the pleasure of getting acquainted with Miss Bailey. I say “acquainted”, because I have known her for a while.

Not only did I photograph her parents last fall, but I also got to photograph her when she lived inside the basketball that Katie was smuggling. Katie and Paul Michael are just some of my very favorite clients, and guess what? Because PM’s cool Aunt Rhenda got them a JP Baby Plan, I’ll be showcasing this fab little family again and again. Yea!

vacca-8cr.jpg

I ADORE this image. It is like they are having a little family meeting.
Plus, you can see PM’s bassinet in the background that he is so generously letting his daughter use. ;-)

vacca-47cr.jpg

praycr.jpg

PM is just so in love with Bailey…the way he interacts with her makes me smile and warms my heart.

vacca-11bwcr.jpg

Look at all of the bows! She will undoubtedly be well accessorized!

vacca-17cr.jpg

toescr.jpg

Katie is so gentle and caring. She is already such a great mommy and I can’t wait to watch her raise Bailey into a little lady.

vacca-82bwcr.jpg

vacca-90cr.jpg

It’s not a “cat nap”. This, my friends, is a “HAT nap”!

vacca-128cr.jpg

Thanks, Katie and PM, for yet another fun and memorable session! I lurve you guys!

It’s so funny to me that i recognize people from your previous pictures. i must be a fan!

BTW - what’s a baby plan?

chriselda Nov 29th, 2007 at 2:40 pm

woman. you are a goddess!! i love them. esp the one of her sitting in the chair with the baby. niiiiiiiiiice

Kate Nov 29th, 2007 at 3:35 pm

Hey Wendy! A baby plan is when a couple buys a bunch of sessions for me to photograph all of their baby’s milestones. It is a neat way to save a little bit instead of paying the big bucks for each individ. sesh.

Julie Yetter Nov 29th, 2007 at 6:06 pm

I agree with Wendy, I feel like a stalker or something…I am starting to RECOGNIZE people on the blog!! Beautiful pics, Kate. Love Bailey’s hat…she pulls it off perfectly!!!

erin kate Nov 29th, 2007 at 8:58 pm

these are so great! they must love them!
i adore that hat!

Susie M Nov 30th, 2007 at 4:09 pm

Kate……This is without a doubt your best baby session!!! What a wonderful little family all wrapped up in your loving capture. I love you…Mom

tomi cheeks Dec 1st, 2007 at 12:28 am

OH THE HAT!!!! QUITE FABULOUS-AS ARE THE PICS!

[…] Little Miss Bailey has grown by leaps and bounds and has the friendliest, bubbliest little personality. Katie and PM must be the best parents in the world, because Bailey is constantly as happy as Noopsy gets when we accidentally spill his dog food. Oh boy! […]

Just a Friendly Reminder!

Hi Fabulous People!

I just wanted to remind you that in just a few days (DECEMBER 1ST), my pricing for portraits will increase from $400 to $500.  Also, my bottom wedding package {The Standard} will increase from $2250 to $2500.

Any deposits received postmarked December 1st or earlier will be just fine.  Any deposits received with a postmark of later than December 1st and after will be subject to an additional payment.

Thanks so much & I’m stepping off of the soapbox for now.  Gotta go edit!

Hey! I’m Katie Vacca’s younger sister, and i LOVE your pictures!! I see here the pricing for portraits, but i was wondering if you would consider doing a pet portrait session. I see that you have some family pics with pets in them, and they are so awesome! Anywho, I couldn’t find another way to locate your email, so i decided to post on your blog! Thanks!

Julie + Rick :: Hitched

Posted on November 27th, 2007 by Kate. Filed in Weddings

After months of getting to know each other, I walked into this wedding like I was a family member. It was such a blessing to have not only photographed their engagement session, but to also have captured them as a new family.

I love love love this couple and the way they put everyone around them at ease. Neither one of them is afraid of being silly or having a good chuckle or giving a new friend a big hug, and by doing so, they are setting beautiful examples for their children on how to dance through life.

Big ups to my all-star second shooter, Mom, Wendy Kidd of Each & Every Detail, Tracy Richards at Eldorado Country Club, & Sahana Floral for rocking it out and making this a fantastic shindig.

Now, let me introduce to you, Mr. & Mrs. Twinkletoes, both graduates of many, many dancing lessons that were well worth the trouble!

After Mom and I helped a panicked Hannah (Julie’s daughter, who couldn’t dance because her dress was too long…we pinned it up for her!), she found her way over to the candy bar and got a treat.

You capture it all - the beauty, the anticipation, the emotion, and the fun - all in such an interesting way. The color and perspectives make for great viewing. Thanks for sharing. I love seeing new posts!

Shawn Nov 27th, 2007 at 6:59 pm

Wow! Gorgeous photos as always but what a fun wedding. So many great touches. The candy bar, the sparklers. Love it all! :)

Wendy Kidd Nov 28th, 2007 at 1:54 am

I just can’t get over these pictures! I just keep coming back for more. You’ve outdone yourself Kate! I adore the fact that you picked my fave jar of candy to show, the rock candy suckers on top of junior mints. Love the ring pick too! Julie and Rick were so awesome and these pics truly reflect them.

Susie M Nov 28th, 2007 at 7:47 am

Kate….you captured supreme happiness!!! What fun it is to “shoot” with you! You rock, girlfriend!
Love, Mom

Dwelling on the Positive (Guest House of the Century)

Posted on November 26th, 2007 by Kate. Filed in Commercial, A Life in the Day

At Bobby’s parents’ ranch on Lake Buchanan, therein lies their newest project: the guest house of the century. It is green (environmentally conscious in every way, for those of you who still litter and drive Hummers), architecturally outstanding, and even cozy, despite its modern design. As a well-traveled woman who is nerdy enough to read books about architectural history, historic preservation, and interior design just for fun, I am difficult to impress. However, you may officially alert the press. My Uggs have been blown off by this amazing new structure, and I am so proud to know the owners. ;-)

ext21.jpg

Solar panels give things a boost!

solarcollage1.jpg

ext11.jpg

With its funky decorative touches, the guest house is very inviting. Notice Sarah (with her fab hubby Scott) and Noopsy! Three of my favorite people. Yeah…I called Noopsy a person. The dysfunction doesn’t even end with that!

comeonin1.jpg

I adore the kitchen area. Of course, the turquoise cabinets just rock my world!

kitchen.jpg

I see company colors for Juxtapose Photography!

bedandbath.jpg

The staircase is so intricately built and possibly (if I HAD to pick) my favorite element in the whole shebang.

stairs.jpg

Sure looks like a good party house, no?

lookingdown.jpg

Thanks so much for your hospitality, Pete & Lyn! We love you and continue to be amazed by you and your special projects! Muah!

Kate - these photos are amazing! They absolutely should be in a magazine! The staircase is beautiful and so very interesting. I LOVE those floors! I have to tell you that at first glance the door mat looked like oatmeal cookies on a baking sheet. Now that’s a welcome mat!

Winter’s On Its Way

Posted on November 25th, 2007 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

And how do I know? Well, after spending a long and lazy Thanksgiving weekend in Burnet, Texas, overlooking Lake Buchanan, I managed to come back with a little bag of proof.

Some types of vegetation are thriving,

cactuscr.jpg

rosemarycr.jpg

while others are struggling to get by.

deadthistlecr.jpg

tomatotwocr.jpg

Comfort food leads to winter weight, but aren’t we secretly okay with those extra few pounds? It is so worth it!

ovencr.jpg

The wind whistles and gives me bad hair days, but it’s chilly slap gives me the right to wear fabulous new outerwear and winter accessories. Bonus!

windart1cr.jpg

How do I really know that winter is almost here? It is almost too cold to enjoy a sunset. Almost. But, not quite.

Headin’ to the Hill Country!

Posted on November 21st, 2007 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

Tomorrow morning, we will leave for Burnet to visit Bobby’s folks for Turkey Day.  I am so excited to see everyone and to gobble gobble up the tasty treats!

Email will be spotty at best, and phone reception will be next to zilch.  Hang in there, if you need something, as I will be back Sunday and will return emails Monday.

I’m so thankful for everyone who has supported me thus far.  My family, friends, clients, and even blog-stalkers are so incredibly important to me and I wish ALL of you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Hugs!

Kate, I am beginning to realize what I like so much about your work. I think it’s your eagerness in engaging with your subjects, be they brides or cupcakes. I love reading your blog and am so in awe of all you’ve accomplished as a photographer so far, and I know there’s so much more to come.

James Nov 24th, 2007 at 10:48 pm

Ok I am tired just reading everything on your list. And realizing I am much to afraid to make one up for myself.

It has been forever since I have talked to you (other then your blog where you do all of the talking) and I miss you terribly. Hope all is well! Holla atcha sista!

America’s Next Sweetheart

Posted on November 19th, 2007 by Kate. Filed in Teens

Meet Corrie. She’s the sister of George, Tom, & Bess, and the final Newman offspring photo session for 2007. She may be last in line, but she is certainly not least. Tall, poised, with model-like qualities, Corrie could be commanding in nature, but she is actually quite the opposite. She is kind, gentle, and even slips back into the quiet spaces that hide behind all of the hoopla that comes with being in a family of 6. However, Corrie comes alive when on the stage, where she can show off her talents and even be a little commanding, even if only for a role.

Thanks to Brenham High School’s kickin’ Drama Director, Andy Hart, we got to sneak on stage and steal the spotlight for Corrie’s session. So, watch out Laura Bell Bundy and Kristin Chenoweth, Corrie is hot on your heels!
