Jena :: Unbridaled

Posted on February 29th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Unbridaled

Miss Jena will be getting hitched on March 8th, so we hightailed it over to Chestnut Square for her Unbridaled session. As the first bride to be photographed in the new office, Jena rocked it out. Doesn’t she look very “Old Hollywood siren” in this first set? Yowzers!

Hands down, my favorite of the session. Perfection.

Something about this one stood out to me…very untraditional and almost edgy. Me likey!

ldu-12acr.jpg

Can you tell I was digging the black and whites from this session? Love the crispness!

ldu-32bwcr.jpg

Jena was a trooper as we battled the wind, waiting for the veil to simmer down.

I think she looks so much like the actress Keri Russell (of Felicity fame) in this last one…gorgeous girl, that Jena!

To the bride…Congrats on the upcoming nuptials!! You look radiantly gorgeous!! (I am not a creepy guy, just a happily married photographer from Kansas City admiring the amazing Kate’s photos).

Wendy Kidd Feb 29th, 2008 at 11:19 am

The Kay Family is O-Kay!

Posted on February 27th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Families

Bet they haven’t heard that one before! ;-)

Meet the Kays.

kayfamilycollagecr.jpg

Like Ali, they also have ties to wonderful Katie and PM, as well as the hilarious Rachael and Jeremy.
I am starting to feel like my client base is one big happy family.

Word of mouth is a BEAUTIFUL THING!

Meet Sam.
His dad predicted that he would be the family member least willing to participate, but I swear the kid was holding my hand as we crossed the street within 3 minutes of meeting me. What a little flirt!

sillysamcr.jpg

Meet Molly.
Coming to a theater near you. Seriously, this kid is made for the stage!

sillymollycr.jpg

Meet Mom and Dad, or Dave and Amanda, as I like to call them.

kay-65cr.jpg

They’ve got mad love for each other!

kay-618x10cr.jpg

In fact, snuggles were everywhere.

cloverwindowscr.jpg

Doesn’t this make you want to be held by your mommy? Even just a little, even if you are 31?

hugyourmommycr.jpg

Amanda is such a fun mom whose kids flat out adore her. She’s pretty cool!

kay-29cr.jpg

She might even be as cool as these vintage shoes.

kay-101cr.jpg

I think Sam would agree.

kay-107cr.jpg

I freaking LOVE this next image.
Equally comfortable and fabulous and chock full of character, these boots are a nice symbol of Dave and Amanda’s marriage.

kay-81cr.jpg

I was playin’ with the hard light that day and came up with some kooky stuff that I love.

mollysamfavecr.jpg

kay-124cr.jpg

My favorite photo of their fam…blow it up big, guys!
May the sun always warm your souls…thanks for a fantastic session!

Ali and Her Boyz

Alison Morgan, aka Ali, is as cute as a button and no bigger than a minute…especially when she is standing next to her loves, Dallas and Oliver. She is the sister of Katie and aunt to Bailey, but mom to the most adorable kiss-giving boys you have ever seen…and she dresses them well! They are very lucky to have a fashion designer for a mommy. Check out their cool coats and collars made by Ali!

LOVE the shoes, girlfriend!

Millie and Her Hat

Posted on February 25th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

Mills saw me wear this hat to my session on Saturday and she just HAD to wear it on Sunday. I think she claims it now, and I will probably never be able to wear it again without a major meltdown. Oh well…it looks WAY cuter on her anyway. Homegirl can work it!

An Afternoon in Denton, TX

Posted on February 24th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

Went to Downtown Denton yesterday for a commercial shoot for fabulous dog accessory designer, Ali Morgan. While I was waiting for her at the courthouse in the middle of the square, this is what I saw.

Why NOT turn the sky turquoise?

branchescr.jpg

Their courthouse is beautiful! I love the way people flock around it in the afternoon…very small town Texas.

Ice cream in February? Only in Texas!

Someone voted. Wonder what they voted for. Hmmmmmm.

I just wanted to let you know that you inspire me. I have wanted to be a photographer since eighth grade and now I’m a junior and it’s still my dream. I have a few questions for you, but one thing i love in all your photographs is your EMOTION. I hope you keep inspiring people. It’s also cool that we have the same name. haha.

Spoon Me, My Valentine!

Posted on February 20th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Commercial, A Life in the Day

Last Thursday evening, Bobby, Mills, & I had reservations for Spoons Cafe’s Valentine’s Day Dinner. Of course, I had to capture all of the festivities including but not limited to cupid, hearts, sprinkles, icing, and kisses.

Hey Bobby—I Love You!

Posted on February 20th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

I am sooooooo sick right now. Yuckers. I am seriously wanting to sleep all day and my pjs are all mismatched and my hair is crunchy and I can’t even hardly focus because of the little elves with hammers that have been pounding at my forehead since 1am.

However, I am soooooooo lucky to have Bobby in my life. Though he did have to work today, he took such good care of me last night and took care of everything regarding Millie so that I didn’t have to lift a finger.

Thanks, babe! I owe ya and I love ya and I can’t wait for you to get home so I can snuggle ya!

Kate! I’m so sorry you are sick! We have had the yuckies at our house off and on for almost two months now. It’s a bad yuck season! I’m wishing you well and happy that you (just like me!) are blessed with a fabulous loving man to help take care of you.

Julie Feb 20th, 2008 at 6:57 pm

Miss Kate, I am sorry that the crud has found you. As you know, it has been terrorizing our house for over a month. I am glad Bobby is taking good care of you!!!

Super Tyrone + Sarah Miller = Lurve

Posted on February 18th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Vendor Spotlight

I bet your wedding planner doesn’t do this. Sarah Miller from Caplan Miller Events had a wedding this weekend in Austin which featured Super Tyrone and I am so jealous that I wasn’t able to photograph it.

Let me break it down for you, folks. If you hire Super Tyrone to play at your wedding, I will give you 8 hours of wedding coverage at 50%. SERIOUSLY. That is how badly I want to work with him!

Click below to see Super Tyrone do his thang and to watch Sarah work that body—work that body!

Dash is 3 Months Old!

Posted on February 16th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Babies

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting little Dash and his mom, Anne, down in Dallas. They live in a gorgeous home in a gorgeous part of town and have gorgeous things and insanely cool and mind-blowingly gorgeous artwork but the MOST GORGEOUS thing in the house is Baby Dash. He is such a handsome little guy and so expressive for such a young buck!

Sit back, relax, and get to know Dash…you will be seeing a lot more of him over the course of his first year.

This has to be one of my most favorite baby images. Just look at the way Dash looks adoringly at Anne as he is waking up!

dash3m-52cr.jpg

Most definitely another favorite. That light is stunning!

dash3m-24cr.jpg

Doesn’t Dash look so hopeful here? Darling!

dash3m-68cr.jpg

Dash has the sweetest boy’s nursery I have seen to date. Complete with crest, tent striping, and stars, Dash is a knight in the making.

dashcollage1.jpg

Dash found this hallway to be especially peaceful, so we let him chill there for a bit.

dash3m-139bwcr.jpg

‘Sup, y’all?

dash3m-142cr.jpg

Dash’s dad is very Texan and has an amazing collection of boots. Anne had this outfit picked out, so we thought this little cowboy could snooze next to the boot collection for a bit. It was quite cozy in the closet…night night, Dash. See you in 3 months!

The picture with Dash in his red jacket looking off in the distance looks very presidential–not to put any pressure on him.

Dash is my nephew and is absolutely the most adorable baby in the world!! I love these photos because they capture how sweet and wonderful he is. I can’t wait to get my copies!!!

[…] This little baby is all growns up. What is happening? It is blowing my mind. I absolutely LOVE watching my Juxtapose babies learn new tricks and skillz, but Dash is honestly starting to make me feel old. Kate :: Missing in Action!

Posted on February 15th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

So sorry I have been MIA for the past days.  I have been unable to return emails, much less blog!

If you are expecting something from me, please know that I am crawling out from under the heap of stuff that has been mounting over the past couple of weeks, including but not limited to:

~Bobby’s umbilical hernia surgery (I want him to heal so I can freakin’ HUG him again)

~Mom is sick (send her some cyber “get-wells”!) and I am glad to play nurse to the woman who spent years taking care of me!

~Millie has never acted more like a “2 year old” than this particular week (whatever I ask of her, she does the exact opposite and I really want to cry because I feel like I don’t know what I am doing as a parent!)

~I am starting to get whatever bug is going around (ear ache, sore throat and tired as hell!)

On a POSITIVE NOTE, I can update you and say that I have had several FUN FUN FUN things happen over the course of this week as well.

~Coming soon to the blog:  Dash is 3 Months Old!

~Spoons celebrates Valentine’s Day and I am bloggin’ it!

~I also had fantastic meetings with Sarah of Caplan Miller Events and Becca & Kerrie of A Stylish Soiree and can’t wait to work with these chicas!

~My new logo is almost ready to throw atcha!

Dear Kate, I am so sorry for all the stress in your life right now. It probably is no comfort to know that all of this will make you a more sensitive and insightful artist! Thank you for letting me know about Susie. My love and prayers to all of you.

tomi cheeks Feb 16th, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Hey Kate! Sorry you’ve got the pressure. Let me encourage you…Millie is just being a kid, and you are reacting like a normal mommy. The things is, we as parents try to “figure” these strange little people out and it’s impossible. Ever heard the saying “You can’t reason with an unreasonable person”? I think that came from a mom dealing with a two year old somewhere. :) Hang in there!
