Leavin’ On A Jet Plane…
…to South Padre Island, our home away from home. Oh, how we love the beach, and oh how we are in need of the beach lately. We (Bobby, Mills, Mom, and I) leave at “breakfast a.m.” (code for “I can’t remember the exact time, but it is really freakin’ early) tomorrow, and won’t return until June 1st. Hallelujah. I can’t wait to feel the sand under my toes, drink fruity drinks, and eat seafood till I feel like I’m a fish. Eeeeeee! Sooooo excited am I!
While I am gone, I will be checking voice mail, but if you really want to reach me, you will need to email me at kate@juxtaposephotography.com. My iPhone will be alive and well…trust me…I have an iAddiction. I will also be blogging, more than likely. Get ready for tons of pics of Mills at the beach!
Until I return, I will leave you with your own mini-vacay, courtesy of the sky on Mindy + Christopher’s wedding day.

Courtney + Collin :: Engaged!
The light was gorgeous and so were they. Last week, Courtney and Collin met me in Fort Worth across from TCU for their engagement adventure. I have certainly gotten along well with Courtney considering our first meeting was spent chit chatting for over two hours, but this was a fab opportunity to get to know Collin.
Such a chill couple, Court and Collin were up for anything…they hung in there with me as we barged into bars, borrowed a pink Volkswagen bug, and almost got hit crossing the street. Such troopers.
I can’t wait for their June 14th wedding!

Seriously…HOW CUTE ARE THEY??? I am so lucky to get to photograph such cute love.
ahhh yah… love the pink buggy shot, kate!
love the negative space on the stairs!

Amie :: Hot Mommy
Because she is about to go into labor at any given moment, I thought I would make Amie smile by showing her these. SO CUTE! She and Michael are preparing to welcome Miss Taylor Kate into their lives, and I will be photographing all of the little darling’s milestones. I can’t wait to meet her so I can say, “I knew you when you were in your mom’s tummy!”
How adorable is she?

Talk about a belly laugh. I bet Taylor Kate was even giggling at that one.

Hotness!

They are really quite precious together.

Favorite times a thousand. Does she glow or does she GLOW???

Can’t wait to see you guys in a few weeks for the newborn session!
They look great, despite my feeling HUGE! You’re aweseome, thanks so much - I can’t wait to see the rest of them!
You look great, Amie! One hot mommy indeed! Can’t wait to see pics of little Taylor!
Love her pictures! She’s so cute! Love the spot too!

[…] day has come, folks. Taylor Kate is a ONE YEAR OLD! I am really just in shock, as I remember photographing her when she was still in Amie’s tummy! Then came the day I REALLY met her, and instantly fell in love with her. And again and again! How […]
Ava is 9 Months!
I can’t believe the little princess is 9 months. She is getting so grown up and is cruising all over the place. Ava loves standing in her crib, blowing zerberts, and apparently, shopping. Sounds like my kinda girl!
Ava is such a happy little girl and I know why. Her mom and dad give her a bazillion kisses a day!

Her domain.

Somebody likes to be a ham like her mama!

Chrissy and I took Princess Ava for a trip to Target riding in the cart sans the car seat for the very first time.
She sat up and was in hog heaven!

On the shelf next to the Hannah Montana dolls. I just can’t seem to get away from her, can I?

Ava even left with some prizes, because, well, it wouldn’t be Target if you didn’t go in for toothpaste and come out with seventeen toys, groceries for a month, and a fabulous new wardrobe.

Hugs to you and your mom and pop, Ava! See you in 3 months!
Can I just say how awesome you are??? Only YOU would take a 9 month old to Target for a photo session!!! Who would even think of that??? You got some AWESOME shots. YOU are the MOST creative EVER!!!
precious ava!! she has the most beautiful big eyes ever. she’s gonna be a shoppin’ pro yo!

Death Cab For Cutie’s newest album :: Narrow Stairs

MGMT’s first full album :: Oracular Spectacular
~not really meant for Mom or her friends, since there are *gasp* curse words and the like, but it will make you shake it fo’ sho’!
Have fun, and let me know what you are jammin’ to!
Oh you’re a Johua Radin fan!! Me too
I bet you’re a schuyler Fisk fan too then! I adore her and I was lucky enough to meet them both when they were in my town last year.
Hey Kate, Mindy’s Mom here…still stalking your blog…hoping to see pics of the wedding! ;o) We can’t wait!
Love ya,
Sheri
These days I am rockin out to “The Hot Dog Dance” from the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
Holla!
Coronation Coordination
Say THAT five times fast. This was THE SINGLE MOST CHOREOGRAPHED and COORDINATED event I have EVER photographed (thanks to countless hours put in by Betsy Newman, Lois Kohlkorst, Lela Kelley, and their troops).
Shooting it was a bit like taking an 8 hour wedding allotment and cramming it into a 2 1/2 hour period. The pace? Imagine photographing a basketball game…WHILE ON THE COURT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME! (Dodge the ball, don’t trip the ref, watch out for that player!) Needless to say, I was so sore the next morning from sprinting and squatting and my hair was crunchy and my skin was parched…but oh, was it worth it! What a gig!
Presenting Queen Lois Kate and King George!

One of my favorite teens…Bess!

Corrie leads her pack.

If only Millie could have been there to see the Hannah Montana act that Lois Kate and her friends did. To. Die. For.

These little fairy princesses wished they were just a bit older to play Hannah Montana with the big girls.

Bess & Corrie are super brave to climb to the top of the “shoe”. Yikes.

Here are Queen Lois Kate and King George and their fabulous siblings watching the end-of-the-show fireworks. Love it! Such innocence wrapped up in a little package, huh?

Kate….That just took my breath away….Dag-Gum-It, girl….you are sooooo good! You just captured “Coronation Coordination”….Go Betsy, Go Lois, Go Lela, GO KATE!!!!! Love you….Mom
Kate …I love what I’m seeing! Wow! You have really captured the essence of what Betsy and I set as our goal: make it all about the kids and let them have fun. We had a great team of volunteers we had that made the 118th Maifest, The Toy Store, come to life. And your pics say it all! I can’t wait to see them, each and everyone of them. I love your comments about your mom. She, Doc and Nan (& Ricky, too) have been very special to our family through the years. Doc, and especially Nancy, would love your artistic work with the camera. Keep up the GREAT work. Many thanks to you and your mom for making time for us in Big “B” Lots of love…Lois
[…] Read the rest of this great post here […]
Great job, Kate. If you can do this, you can do ANY thing.
The pictures are as great as the Maifest was…sometimes pictures don’t live up to the reality…but these certainly do. You took the pictures I’d hoped to see…up-down-all around…thank you, Kate! Love you…Jane B.
Don’t Rain on My Parade
Now, normally, I am not a parade person. My lovely mother was a parade pusher when I was a child and it turned me off of them, much like her fruit pushing turned me off of fruit and her restrictive ways regarding television turned me into a TV junkie. If you think I am dissin’ Mom, please read the next post.
Anywho, sitting and watching is not really my bag. I am far too hyper for that. HOWEVER…SHOOTING A PARADE IS WAAAAAAAY DIFFERENT. I was in love with capturing the feeling of it all! The participants and spectators, to me, were all entertaining in their own right. The bands were playing some funky beats that had my booty shakin’ and the kids and costumes were too cute to boot. If I could photograph nothing but parades, I doubt I would ever get bored. They rock!
Sit back, and enjoy a parade on your computer. The Brenham Maifest’s Junior Parade is about to begin!
Our King, George Newman, gets “fixed up” by his beautiful toy soldier sister, Corrie.

In the heart of Blue Bell country is where Maifest lies.

Darling little Beckett and Fletcher are Millie’s Brenham buddies.

Everybody’s gotta check each other out. The costumes are just to die for!

I love love love these women! Don’t know ‘em, but I love ‘em!

Shake your tail feather!

Favorite!

Another Favorite!

And the last float of the day is the royalty. Put your hands together for Queen Lois Kate and King George!

Kate…..you soooo captured life on Maifest Friday in Brenham, Texas. The rhythms of life were all stepping out on this day! Love it! You, too! Mom
Hey! I recognize some of those folks! Great capture of the flavor of Maifest. Makes me feel like I was there. . .
okay…I am so curious about the twister skirts. Can I see more of that “get-up” (as my grandfather would call it)? The rest of the shots are really fab too. as usual. ![]()
Kate — the picture of the “old women” could win a trophy! You really captured them. I could write a story on them and just their thoughts that moment!! Great work!
love ya’,
Ga-Ga
Kate, my favorite is the lady and her doggie. Was he growling? He’s too cute. : )
Fabulous job, Kate!! Now Beckett and Fletcher think they’re famous like Millie.
Absolutely terrific! You captured the essence of Maifest and all the fun! Kate, you have a wonderful talent!…….and yes, your momma done you good! Susie has always been a phantastic photographer!
Since we were in Colo. Springs playing for a wedding and did not get to attend Maifest this year we especially appreciate seeing pictures that bring it home for us. THANK YOU so much for these.
Love you……….Martha
I Got It From My Mama
Wow. I have got to give credit where credit is due. Most of you know that my mom is my second shooter for events and big assignments. It is like having an older clone of myself who is less bossy and more maternal around so I don’t have to spread myself too thin. She means the world to me, and I am SO lucky to have such a great partner in crime. We have so much fun shooting together, and I think we make a pretty dynamic team. Mom and I are definitely each other’s cheerleaders, warmly supporting each other and growing in our craft in a positive way.
This photo was taken by the oh-so-sweet Nita Hyatt at the Brenham Maifest a couple of weekends ago. It is the only decent photo of Mom and me from recent years, so I treasure it wholeheartedly!
Here’s a shout out to my mom, Susie! Holla Back and give her some love! If you went to Maifest this year, YOU’D BETTER HOLLA BACK! Don’t be shy!

Gorgeous women! (And i also happen to know that you both have beautiful eyes.) We saw you everywhere at Friday night’s coronation and i had a great view of the back of Susie’s hat.
love,
ma
I love you, Kate!!!! What fun we have together!!! Mom
Kate and Susie,
Loved meeting both of you at my daughter’s wedding Saturday!! You are both so kind and down to earth! Thank you Susie for helping with the centerpieces for the tables…we SO ran out of time!
I am DYING to see some of the pictures, I have been stalking your blog…hoping for a “glimpse” of the wedding!! We didn’t take any of our own, knowing the 2 of you were everywhere. ;o)
Can’t wait to see them so I can post them to our blog!!
Love ya both,
Sheri W. (Mindy…and Christopher’s Mom)
There really are no words in the English language to describe how I feel about these 2 women…they simply inspire me to be a better person and their work touches me in a way that no book or piece of art ever has or will!
I love you both!
Roberto
Love that party pic!!! Can I have her jewelry??? thought I’d ask.
How does y our mom always look so flawless? I can see where you get your eye for style!
Shout outs for Suzie!
Hugs to you both!!
Great pic! What a gift that you have in such a precious relationship with your mom! Treasure it always! And by the way….what a sweet husband you have- you should keep him.:)
And what an awesome son-in-law I have (that would be “Bobby”…in the above “Holla Back”). The biggest heart, the best dad, the most wonderful, loving husband…..
And yes, I adore him! Love you, Roberto!

OMG, it’s FRIDAY!
Have a WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!!

Spoons Cafe Loves to Dessert You
Yeah, I said it. I am feelin’ kinda punny today. You should be used to my weird sense of humor by now.
Anywho, the fabulous Spoons Cafe asked me to photograph their desserts for a new menu and some promotional material. As if they needed to promote anything since they are totally packed 24/7, but who would pass up photographing such glorious treats?!
Feast your eyes on this. If you weren’t already in need of an afternoon snack, you will be now. Hope you don’t get sugar shocked right through your computer!
Singles bar!

I bet you wish your pie charts looked a little more like this, huh?

The Spoons mascot says, “I’m dying over here. Will somebody get me a cupcake, already?!”

Guess whose naughty little fingers these are?

If I could choose one image from this whole shoot, it might be this one.

I gotcha now, cupcake! You’re all mine! Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

My other favorites! (Well, two of them, anyway.)

Those chubby hands just kill me. Anyone notice her stamp from school? I thought it added to the flavor of the image.

Who needs the Butcher and Candlestick Maker when you’ve got Kara, the best baker in the metroplex?!

Thanks Kara, Karen, Maureen, & Kathy, & Toni for making the treats, holding pies, moving chairs,
switching out this and that and then some, and generally letting me boss you around for an hour. It was loads of fun!!!
I love the cupcake picture! Way to go Mills! Wish I had tht kind of self control around sweets.
Ok, we already know that the human subject is your “absolute best work” and even a masterpiece (I helped, too), BUT the rest of it is friggin LEGEN…wait for it…hope you’re not lactose intolerant…b/c it’s gonna be…DARY!!!!
I need that cupcake, that cupcake needs me. I know I am happily married but I wanna go on match.com, find that cupcake (after we chat online for a few months and meet in a safe place), make one of those cheesey commercials that plays music from Love Actually in the background, and we’ll go live in this cute little bakery in the country and make a baker’s dozen!
Mills and Kate…..those are my girls! Yummy cupcakes….Precious girls! Go Spoons!
Sweet Millie, those sweets can’t top you! You are the sweetest cutest model. Love to you, Auntie Gab
ok. so… that must’ve been torture for you to photograph that while the wee one was present!
my kid would’ve thrown a MASSIVE fit.
ok. soooo don’t laugh but my next scheduled date to come to D/FW area is in october for the New Kids on the Block concert. and i will need to go to Spoons … and IKEA. you in ?!
Chriselda~~~Actually, Millie didn’t touch anything until we told her she could. She was the perfect angel and blew my mind. Needless to say, she got to pick out a treat, and hers was the pink cupcake! To match her dress, of course!!!
Very impressed with Mills’ willpower. I’d be divin’ in! They look amazing!
oooh man.. Now I want a strawberry cupcake!!! Dang! How come Mckinney is so far off my path in Rowlett??? arrrgh!
[…] the out of this world event design, the flowers I have never even heard of, the food that is almost too pretty to eat, and the music that pulls me into each wonderful moment…yeah, all of that is pretty sweet. […]
Hope you had a fantastic trip and I can’t wait to see what you have for us now that your back!
