The Out-of-Towners
Bobby and I are leaving this afternoon for sparkly Las Vegas! I am ecstatic to actually go on a vacay with my hubby, my BFF (the spectacular Sarah Miller) and her rad hubster, Scott. We are staying at the Bellagio, since that is where we got hitched almost 6 years ago, and we can’t wait to hit the town luxury-style.
On top of my list is hangin’ by the pool, shopping, and trying the truffle burger at Daniel Boulud at the Wynn. YUMMERS. If you have any ideas, pony up by leaving a holla back!
I won’t be super available, but I will have my iPhone with me, so feel free to email me at kate@juxtaposephotography.com, and I will give you a shout back within a reasonable amount of time.
Stay sweet like this pink caddy!

So jealous- of course Lost Wages is one of our favorite towns. Try the smoothies in the juice bar at the wynn- they are made with lemonade and oh so refreshing. And if you can see Cirque’s O at Bellagio, pay whatever it costs to do so- best show ever! And watch out for the gnomes (corner machine) at the mirage… they are quite greedy! Also, the spa at THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay is heaven on earth… I could go on and on. Maybe I should just plan a trip myself!
Kate I love vegas…so jealous! you must have crepes at Paris…and you and your BFF go check out the thunder from down under and let the boys go be boys for an hour…it’s a super fun show
have a fabulous trip!
I’m Pretty Sure I Need This :: chandeliers
I’m a girl. I’m a girl who loves shopping. I’m a girl who loves pretty things and frilly things and rock and roll things and definitely unique things. Me, shop at the Gap? I think not.
To celebrate what might be the bane of Bobby’s existence, I am starting a new category on this blog called, “I’m Pretty Sure I Need This”. When I find myself amidst stacks of work and I need a break, I procrastinate by doing what I like to call, “Research Before the Purch”. You know…purch, as in PURCHASE. So instead of keeping all of the findings to myself, I have decided to be a good role model for Millie by demonstrating how to share.
Here’s the first installment of the series! I decided to focus on items featuring chandeliers. Mmmmmmm. My favorite.
Oh So Rococo are these notecards from PaperNosh, found on Etsy. When I was 20, I studied abroad in France and fell in love with the decadence of Versailles and Marie Antoinette.
The over-the-top style may not be practical, but there’s nothin’ wrong with enjoying a little eye candy, now is there?

I’m toying with the idea of delivering “The Mother of All Albums” in these totes…I need yellow or turquoise, though!

Just bought Bobby this! It would be my dream come true if a groom would wear this tie on his wedding day. HOT!

And seeing as this little gem + shipping is only five smackeroos, I might as well get it. I’m pretty sure I need this.

ay dios mio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, Kate!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE chandeliers, too!!! Rick and I are currently embroiled in a battle over the master bathroom….I want an oppulent, over the top, girly chandelier hanging in the center and he wants a practical ceiling fan!!!! NO FUN AT ALL!!!!
hey I love your style! here is another distraction for you, my friend Adrienne is a jewelry artist and you would totally love her style, check out her site, she has me do most of her product photography, so I get kickbacks, whoooohoo!! I love the Marie Necklace!

And I Do My Little Turn On the Catwalk.
Last Thursday, I helped out John and Dalisa Cooper with their very ALTF workshop by modeling as the Anti-bride. I’ve actually never modeled before (that I can remember), so it was an entirely new experience. Being on the other side of the camera is definitely nerve-racking, but John and the other photographers in attendance made me feel right at home…on the catwalk.
John’s concept of the Bride of Frankenstein had been brewing in his brain for quite some time. I was able to help him bring it to life because, apparently, I look like the chick from the 1935 movie. With a little (read: a lot) of help from Kelly of Haute Facade, we pulled off a very Old Hollywood look that I can honestly say I am proud of. Wow. Maybe I should dress like Frank’s bride more often!
Here are some frames from John:

and one from JVS (a rad lighting guru of a photog in Dallas & workshop host):

and a couple from Bludoor Studios, super nice attendees of the workshop:

Also, if you want to see Dalisa’s daily blog video about the day, check this out:
Crazy, huh? Now all Millie wants to play is, “Put my white dress on and go take pictures.” That’s her new game.
Apparently, you CAN be on both sides of the camera at the same time.
Holy S*&^! Can I say that here? I saw that post on his blog and didn’t even recognize you! You look positively STUNNING!
Ha! A little makeup’ll go a looooonnnnnng way, Miss Vey!
You look fab, Kate. How awesome!
You look so haute!!! Seriously, you should model professionally. Kate, you just look so stunning. You need one of those as a giant wall canvas.
how cool is that? these are just some BAMF’in old school holywood glamour… joan crawford ain’t got nothin’ on ya.
You look Awesome and a little scary !!! Yikes…..
OMG, KATE!!! I thought that was you on the ALT-F Blog…Rick and I argued about it!!! You are HOT!!!
Thanks so much for letting me be part of it all! You look AMAZING! I’m so glad it worked out! :o)
Absolutely gorgeous!
Gorgeous shots & lighting & you look stunning!! I love JVS’s shot… WOW at getting photographed by these two amazing photographers!
Only 2 phrases in the history of the world can describe you:
“Ooooh La La,” (Millie Mefford 2008).
“Va Va Voom, “Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley 1979).
You are stunning and I am proud to call you my own personal “arm candy!”
I love Bobby’s comment! I was going to say Hot Damn! You are gorgeous! What a fun experience - Congrats!
HOT - HOT - H.O.T.!
Kate…..you are just gorgeous! ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! What fun! Your creativity on both sides of the camera emits such pizazz! You go girl!
ZOW! WOW!
Drew is a Newborn!
He’s a Drewborn…a very cute and cuddly one at that! His big brother Matthew is a sweet pea of a 3 year old who loves the camera. Take a peek at a few of my faves from our session last week!
Definitely one of my favorite photographs I’ve ever taken…such a kid moment!
Where is the marker going to land???

This Drewborn can sleep ANYWHERE.

Matthew is the epitome of a 3 year old. He is so playful and engaged in everything all at once!

And definitely the image that makes me giggle with glee is this last one. Oh so cute!

Absolutely the best! I love them! You really captured our session together! Thanks so much Kate for taking such great pictures of my boys! I’m really happy to have some pictures of this wonderful time of my life!
Boy you did capture them! These look wonderful, and mucho congratos to the proud parents!
GREAT Pictures! I love them all. The two boys make me smile from ear to ear.
This is the cutest newborn shoot I’ve seen in a long time. Love the unique angles and composition. Great work! And what a couple of cute boys!
Great pictures Kate!! Drew looks so cute and I love the action shots of Matthew!!!
These are wondervul pictures! In their uniqueness, they portray the personalities of the boys so well that I feel a connection with them and even feel like I have a insight into their precious personalities! Great photographer, but also GREAT MODELS!
These pictures are priceless. Very natural and candid….unique!! I love, love, love them!! I know Jackie and Tim will treasure these for years to come!! You have captured a very special time in this young family’s life!! Awesome!!
Sarah
The action taken to national disaster is awesome but it’s a real shame that so many citizens take advantage of the negative situations.
I mean everytime there is an earthquake, a flood, an oil spill - there’s always a group of heartless people who rip off tax payers.
This is in response to reading that 4 of Oprah Winfreys “angels” got busted ripping off the system. Shame on them!

Hello Everybody
Discussion about the earths temperature increase - or global warming are most often disregarded as too scientific - but, an earthquake shaking an entire country into disaster should not be another disregarded statistic. We’re talking about people, just like you and me.

Earlier today I got a phone call from 9722840600 / (972) 2840600 and was convinced the call was a scammer.
Guess it was a bad case of the “Mondays” - cause I went nuts - and called the company (Gulf Coast Western) and yell.
Make a long story short Gulf Coast Western -an Oil drilling corporation- called me back We’re contacting me about employment. Apparently I got the job

Family Fun for Everyone
Though yesterday was definitely a day for the books as far as the craziness quotient, the evening and night part ended up being most enjoyable. John and Dalisa Cooper of altF were kind enough to take our portrait for their Pay It Forward Campaign which made me super happy.
We got decked out in our individual signature styles and had a full on BLAST. Bobby wore a smart-a$$ message tee and his beeyotchin’ aviator sunglasses. I wore my fave Anthropologie dress, my signature Jackie O sunglasses, Chanel earrings, and displayed my “I’m keepin’ it real” tattoo. (No, it doesn’t SAY that, but it reminds me to always stay true to being myself.) The best part? Millie got to choose her own outfit. She wore a fairy dress with a tutu OVER it, her Minnie Mouse shades, and her butterfly wellies. “No hair accessories, please, Mom. I need some space.” She was in the zone and ready for her 15 minutes.
The result? Check it out for yourself! (totally ganked from the altF blog…don’t hurt me.)

We finished the evening with dinner at Cafe Malaga in Downtown McK with the fabulous Cooper couple. Great food, conversation that flowed as perfectly as the sangria, and now Millie has a new Aunt Dalisa and Uncle John. Hey…we make up our own family around here. It was just the pick-me-up I needed after the perfect storm I had been fighting earlier in the day. Thanks, John and Dalisa, for photographing us, for having fantastic taste in food and drinks so we could kick it community style, for holding Millie’s hand and swinging her just to hear her squeal, and for being such general rays of sunshine on what had been destined to be a crap day.
So awesome!!! What a great shot of you guys!
Oh my gosh! No WAY! I was just thinking how cool it would be to have an inflatable couch for my family shoot in downtown McKinney this Sat. I almost DIED when I checked your blog and saw THIS!!!!! I have to, absolutely MUST find one before Sat. Was this your idea? So weird that I had that same idea………….
By the way that is an awesome family photo. LOVE IT! Can’t wait to see more. ![]()
THAT pic totally captures your family!!! I LOVE that you let Mills pick her own outfit (especially the rain boots!!) I hope you will post more of the pics when you get them!!!
This has to be the best photo evah! Can you say Holiday Card 2008????
this just might be the cutest family portrait I have ever seen!! so cool! sure wish I had one of these of my family when I was little…wait my dad in sunglasses on a couch?! that would be funny! Tell Millie I want her boots!
Spectacular!
Awesome picture! Looks like you guys belong in some magazine picture! Totally captures your family! I love it!
Hi Kate, it was nice meeting you at altF’s seminar. When you get a sec, be sure to check out today’s post on my blog http://www.offcameraflash.com you might recognize the model:)
Awww what a freakin awesome pic! You looked sooo awesome on JVS’ blog too.
Kate, OMG!!! I’ve got to have a copy of this family portrait!!! Soooooo you, sooooo Bobby, soooooo Mills!!!!
Mom
Enjoy the Hilarity That is My Life.
This afternoon has been insane to say the least, but all I can do is laugh.
Millie FINALLY falls asleep at 2pm so I race to the shower to get ready for our family portrait that will be taken by John Michael Cooper of altF this evening. I scrub-a-dub, then grab Bobby’s chosen t-shirt and shorts and take a whiff. SICK. They have been in his suitcase for a couple of days just stewing in the New York City funkiness that apparently came back home with my husband after his weekend trip. I race to the laundry room and chunk them in with a heavy dose of Tide. Scrambling to blowdry my hair, I manage to get the bottom part smooth with one eye watching. The other eye is on my iPhone waiting for JMC to call so I can help him navigate his Very altF RV into construction-riddled Downtown McKinney.
My mouth is dry, so I search for my uber cool Ethos water bottle I got at Starbucks this morning. Sure enough, I find water, but not the kind I was looking for. I step into a huge puddle as I leave my bedroom and yell multiple expletives. Did Noopsy pee? Did I spill something? Where is the water coming fr———–the freaking WASHING MACHINE IS LEAKING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF WATER INTO OUR NEWLY REDECORATED HOUSE! HOLY MOTHER OF SOMEBODY!
After turning the damn thing off, I sprint upstairs with half-blowdried hair and only one eyebrow drawn in to get as many towels from our linen closet as I can find. The water is everywhere and slowing seeping into the master bedroom. It is Wet Towelville in 5 seconds because our towels barely sop up anything. I pile dish cloth upon beach towel until it finally is not making the “squelch squirch” sound beneath our hard wood planks.
Ding-Dong! Holy crackers. Literally, Holy Crackers are at my doorstep. Noopsy goes ballistic, barking at the top of his doggy lungs, and I am in shock that Millie is sleeping through this. I answer the door and tell the missionaries that I am having a little drama and can’t chat at the moment, so I take their card and say my goodbyes.
I leap over the towels to finish blowdrying a section of my hair (which looks REAL NICE at this point…crunchy!). I decide to throw Bobby’s shorts in the dryer (he won’t know if I put 3 sheets of Bounce in, right?) and I let the shirt air-dry on our patio (how old school, right?). I finally finish blowdrying my hair, slap on some makeup, and answer the phone. It’s JMC, and he is in Downtown McKinney. I help him wade through the one way streets till he finally reaches a spot that won’t hit his RV with tree branches. Sigh. To top it off, I find that Noopsy laid a not-so-golden egg in the kitchen that I now have to clean up.
I need a margarita. Off to get Millie to get her ready for the portrait. I am letting her pick out her outfit, so wish me luck.
Love you all!
oh my gosh, kate! that is ca-ray-zee! good luck with the rest of the day and have FUN at the session! yay!
oh man! I want to see the images! Remember you had the Vegas session on a long time ago and inspired US to go to Vegas and have our pics done by them.. soI am excited to see what he does here !!! Hope you have a fabulous time… and HOLYMOLY on the whole water house thing!!!

Natalie + Jay :: Hitched
It is impossible to explain how much fun I had with this couple. Natalie and Jay are very giving people, and they love with their whole hearts and laugh with their entire bodies. Not only are they MADLY in love with each other, but their passion for life is infectious, and to say that spilled over into their photographs is an understatement! They were very trusting in me and I think it shows. These wedding photographs will remain some of my very favorites.
Nope, Natalie’s not expressive at all.

I loved Nat’s b-maids. They were cuties and tons of fun!

Time to pray.

Natalie and her sister, Ashleigh, are too silly!

Love this contemplative side of Natalie.

Nat and her dad have the sweetest relationship. He loves his little princess!

Love it!

Jay and Nat were so excited to be officially married!

How cool is this vintage car? I had no idea it would be outside of Stonebridge Country Club just waiting for us!

I never stop shooting during the formal portraits part of the day because stuff like the following series is what I TRULY hope to be able to capture. These moments are far more valuable and say more about the couple than cheesy posed photographs.

Not that THIS is cheesy. They look hot, no?!!!

Beauty all over the place!

Their reception was gorgeous. The cakes were to die for and the decor was exquisite.

Here they are! Newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Langley!

They played the funniest Newlywed Game. On this particular question, Jay’s answer was quite passionate.
Check out that Ken doll raised high to the sky!

These kids came to GET. DOWN.

Father of the Bride!
Honestly, this is one of my favorite photographs I have EVER TAKEN.

The dude who caught the garter was hilarious. I watched him and laughed for hours.

Off they go! Best wishes to two of my favorite clients! Many hugs as you get settled in Conroe!

Beautiful couple, and the funny shots….well those made me wish I was friends with them so I could have been there for that reception. What characters!
Oh the joy of seeing this again!! What fun, what love, what excitement. I can’t wait to see the rest of the great pictures, Kate!
Hitched at last! What great pictures, full of love and fun. I can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures!!
Love, Mom
oh my goodness, the dad and the guy who caught the garter are cracking me up!! Love the garter shot!
I love the pictures they are AWESOME!!!! Kate thank you for everything
Natalie :: Unbridaled
This girl radiates energy from head to toe. Natalie is such a vivacious girl, and it was a joy to get to photograph her. She’s sassy, has divine taste, and isn’t afraid to squeal like a little girl. Gotta love that combo!
Check her out!
She was there. I promise.

Favorite!

Dreaming of her wedding day, which will be posted to the blog in a matter of days. Hang in there!

Show Nat some love with a Holla Back!
Yeah Kate!!! and yeah Natalie. I am so proud of you!
Priceless. Beautiful couple, beautiful wedding. Gifts from God.
Have a blast, friend! You deserve a break - enjoy it!!
