A Really Killer Day.

Posted on August 31st, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

Yesterday was an incredible day. No, nothing really life changing happened. It was just a thoroughly enjoyable day in every way!

It was the start of COLLEGE FOOTBALL SATURDAYS, a long-held tradition in my home. We’re talkin’ pajamas, team t-shirts, and laptops open to Yahoo!’s College Football Pick ‘Em. That’s our little nerdy online fantasy football pool thingie that we have with some friends and family. I am SOOOO into it. Talk about competitive! I have never hit the refresh button so many times in a 10 hour time frame in my life. I started out with a bang in first, but ended up in third. (Clemson let me down.) BUT, I was the first placed GIRL, so to me, that counts as a big ol’ blue ribbon. =)

Also, I got to photograph a bride and groom in their street clothes for an engagement session down in Dallas. It was just refreshing and fun and super inspiring to be in a place I had not photographed before. Stay tuned for Lauren and Daniel! THEY ROCK!

Got home from the sesh and was handed a frozen margarita and fed tamales and nachos with guacamole. YUM!

Then, I watched TCU whip New Mexico’s hiney. LOVES IT!

As if my College Football Pick ‘Em status and TCU’s wins weren’t enough, I found out I placed in the 2nd quarterly WPJA contest. Here’s my entry winner below, from Allison + Kinnon’s wedding. Some of you might recognize it from my website.

heartwillgoon.jpg

Now, I can say I’m an award winner. That’s kinda fun, right?!
I think I even get a trophy. Haven’t gotten one of those since like 3rd grade playing soccer. Sweet.

I was checking out Ashley Langford’s win in the Getting Ready category and then decided to check out the Details category and was super excited to see your win! I ran over to your blog to see if you had it up. Congratulations! I’ve always loved this shot!

Philip’s Fabulous Fiftieth

Posted on August 28th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Events

Ask me what my favorite event has been in my career as a photographer. Go ahead. Ask.

I will tell you that it was Philip’s birthday party that went down last Saturday.

The location—vacation-worthy
The food—a mathematical equation involving art and insanely delectable ingredients
The decor—meticulously arranged and coordinated to create the chicest, most comfortable place to par-tay
The guest of honor—a cool dude

I would love to thank the team from Caplan Miller Events for their amazing work designing and coordinating the party of the century, as well as for recruiting a dream team of vendors.

David Kurio blew the roof off with his stellar floral arrangements. Howard from First In Last Out Designs established an out of this world experience for the guests with his lighting design. The Four Seasons had the guests fully sated in the catering department with their picture-perfect eats. Outstanding work, guys!

Now, for the images…the best part! Eeeee!

berberappletinitentandtreecr.jpg

Lake Travis is truly stunning. What a perfect match for David Kurio’s floral designs!

berberflowersonthelakecr.jpg

Seriously, the decor was the chicest. I was in awe.

berberorchidtablecr.jpg

Sweet niblets, the place looked AMAZING.

berberdecor1cr.jpg

Yum! Appletinis!

berberappletinitraycr.jpg

This is a real person. Look closely!

Oh. My. Goodness. The food was beautifully done!

It still blows my mind.

berberorchidcr.jpg

Delish!

berbershanesfriendscr.jpg

We had a brief thunderstorm situation to deal with just before the guests arrived.
The girls at Caplan Miller had it UNDER CONTROL, babes. Let me tell ya!

I could have photographed the guests for at least another complete day.
There were so many fascinating people at this shindig that I was like a little kid in a candy store.

berberdanceandcubescr.jpg

berberlightingrockscr.jpg

The entertainment features were Mysterious Ways, the Spazmatics (who I want to marry…all of them at once), and SISTER SLEDGE!
It’s a given that people were gettin’ their groove on!

Speech from the birthday boy.

The 15 minute fireworks show was crazy cool. I honestly have never seen a better one in my life.

Amazing. Towels were needed. Loved it and crave more. Maybe next year?

I Am…

Posted on August 25th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day
  • I AM … comfortable in my own skin
  • I WANT… Millie to have the best childhood possible
  • I HAVE … a serious addiction to anthropologie.com
  • I KEEP … searching for the perfect pair of jeans, but still haven’t found them
  • I WISH I COULD … write a book
  • I HATE … cleaning the bathroom
  • I FEAR … letting Millie down
  • I HEAR … High School Musical songs in my sleep
  • I DON’T THINK … I will ever be the type to wear Mom jeans
  • I REGRET … nuthin’
  • I LOVE … Bobby, Millie, and my mom—my precious little family—the funniest and most darling people I know!
  • I AM NOT … fake at all, or stiff, or formal, or uppity
  • I DANCE … like Ginger Rogers when Millie and I play “stage performers”
  • I SING … “Movin’ On Up” better than Ja’Net Dubois, and if you know who that is, you win a free session
  • I NEVER … leave home without my iPhone
  • I RARELY … pass up a margarita
  • I CRY WHEN I WATCH … Extreme Home Makeover
  • I AM NOT ALWAYS … the best at mailing stuff in a timely manner
  • I HATE THAT … Entourage has been off the air for so long that I have forgotten what the friggin’ show is about
  • I’M CONFUSED ABOUT … how the Chinese women’s gymnastics team has the gold since some of the team members are reportedly under 16
  • I NEED … to get my eyes checked…it’s been almost 2.5 years!
  • I SHOULD … go to bed.

Thanks to Leah Simmers for helping me procrastinate by putting this on her blog! =) Just kiddin’. Lurve ya!

Bobby Aug 26th, 2008 at 10:08 am

I HOPE…you never wear mom jeans.

Stacy Cross Aug 27th, 2008 at 11:28 am

YOU ARE . . . fabulous.

Leah Simmers Aug 27th, 2008 at 6:01 pm

LOL! Good for you, stand your ground against the mom jeans, I’m so there with you.

“…Took a whole lotta tryin’, ,just to get up that hill. now we’re up in the big leagues, gettin’ our turn at bat…..”

DuBois sang the theme song to the Jeffersons. And was also on Good Times. Do I win?

all the best!

orchidanddogcr.jpg…then wait till you see the rest.

I am currently in production, editing the photographs from Philip’s Fabulous Fiftieth birthday party that was held on Saturday evening on Lake Travis. I got to work with some stellar vendors that put forth great efforts to make this shindig a one of a kind event. Stay tuned to see what I have in store!

Jonesin’ for the Olympics like I am?

It’s really not fair to get me addicted to something to only mercilessly rip it from my hands two weeks later. Not. Sweet.

However, thanks to The Boston Globe’s The Big Picture, we can enjoy the best still photographs from the entire extravaganza with the click of a button. (Though this group of frames is quite delish, I think they are missing some rad gymnastics shots in there. I’m just sayin’. Nastia and Shawn rule. Women’s gymnastics has been my fave since I was a toddler.)

Check out the shots by CLICKING HERE!!!

Let me know what your favorite moment or match/game was of the 2008 Summer Olympics…

Nothing tops mens swimming for me! Seeing Phelps just barely earn his 7th gold was a nail-biter for me. I was lovin’ me some Michael Phelps. OH, and I signed my 6 yr old up for more swim lessons this fall. Perhaps I can raise my own little gold-earning machine?

Jenn Aug 27th, 2008 at 8:52 am

I totally agree with you that Nastia & Shawn are the bomb diggity! I also LOVE Misty May-Treanor & Kerrie Walsh - Women’s beach volleyball. 2 Gold Medals, 2 Olympics in a row baby!

Headed to Austin

Posted on August 22nd, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

Bobby and I are leaving this afternoon for Austin. Though the weather is supposed to be sketchy, I will attempt to shoot Wesley + Matt’s engagement session and an uber-fabulous 50th birthday extravaganza on Lake Travis. Of course, I will also get to be in my favorite city and soak up some inspiration along with a massage, fancy drinks, and a stay at the Four Seasons. Traveling for work ROCKS!

If you need anything, feel free to email me at kate@juxtaposephotography.com. I’ll holla back, I swear!

Amber is a Hot Mommy!

Posted on August 19th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Hot Mommies

Amber is one of Katie’s best friends. Now Katie’s Bailey will have a new little friend come this October. Little Audrey Bliss is due on the scene in just seven short weeks, and I can’t wait to meet her! With Amber and Michael’s classic good looks, sense of humor, and fun-loving personalities, Miss Audrey is sure to be a humdinger of a baby! (That’s a good thing for those who aren’t from the South.)

Is she cute or IS SHE CUTE???

These lines are crazy cool. Lovin’ it!

I told her to act like “I am woman, hear me roar” and she died laughing. I knew she would.
Only Whitney Houston would take that line seriously. Crack is whack, yo!

Um, hot.

Yes, we have sailboats in Dallas. Who knew?

Michael and Amber—you are a darling couple and I am so glad Katie and PM referred you to me.
I’m really stoked to work with you over the course this next year!

Bobby Aug 20th, 2008 at 4:00 pm

These are great and they remind me of when I lived in that area and a certain future “Hot Mommy To Be” used to come visit me. Sans Mills of course!

Kim Aug 20th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

You’re amazing Kate! Lovely photos!! She’s beautiful! I Love the one of her laying down! Flawless!!!

What a great capture, Kate! I always feel like I know your clients after I read and view the “Sneak Peek”, and this is no exception. Amber, Michael and baby….what fun!!!

Ya Heard?

Posted on August 18th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

Happy Monday! Hope your week is off to a super start!

We went to the Heard Museum in McKinney on Saturday. Their website mentioned a butterfly exhibit and since Millie is nearly obsessed with them, we thought we’d give it a go.

They were pretty. All 8 of them. Not exactly what we paid $16 for, but whatever…we Meffords make our own fun!

heardmuseumbutterfly.jpg

Seriously? This is it? Seriously?

heardmuseumnolike.jpg

No worries. We found a random outdoor stage where our Shirley Temple could do her thang. Work it, sister!

heardmuseumshirley.jpg

heardmuseumstage.jpg

She and Bobby performed a little High School Musical ditty for this audience of one…me. I totally gave them a standing ovation.
They brought down the house! Personally, I feel like I got my money’s worth.

The McKinney Meffords!!!! Go Mills…you’re my High School Musical starring Shirley Temple star!!! And Bobby….well, you’re the best daddy and son-in-law ever! And Kate…you’re my avant garde, filled to the top with talent and love daughter…whom I love soooo much! What a show!!! Bravo!

Ashley is a Hot Mommy!

Posted on August 15th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Hot Mommies

Imagine my surprise when one of my sorority sisters and fellow hellraiser at TCU contacts me to tell me she’s preggers. I was ecstatic for Ashley, and over the moon that she wanted to do a Let’s Rock Baby Plan to document her first baby’s milestones. She and her husband Chris are going to be the sweetest parents, and it is going to be a blast working with them over this next year. I can’t wait to meet Sweet Caroline…just another month and some days!

Ashley’s only real craving? Sprinkles cupcakes. Yummers.

bottohotmomcupcakefloor.jpg

bottohotmomcupcake2.jpg

Ashley has Caroline’s room ALL decked out. She even painted canvases and onesies and displayed heirloom items to perfection.

bottohotmomaccessories.jpg

As a teacher, Ashley will undoubtedly be reading to Caroline nonstop.

There is just something about this next photograph. The way Chris looks at the oh-so-radiant Ashley is breathtaking and makes me nearly well up with tears of happiness for her and the life she has made for herself.

bottofave.jpg

Damn, Texas is HOT.

wadingpoolbw.jpg

In case of emergency, break out the fan. What a hot mommy, in every sense of the word “hot”!

Thanks, Ash and Chris, and I will see you in a few weeks for the newborn sesh and to meet your darling Caroline!
