A Hero in Photojournalism
James Nachtwey is one of the premiere badasses of today’s photojournalism world. The moments he captures on camera speak volumes and bring greater awareness to people like you and me regarding the affairs of the world in which we live. That is why you need to check this out. Now.

Corrie is 15!
She’s grown up before my very eyes. I cannot believe that Corrie is SUCH a lady. Not a girl…a LADY. Last year, she was definitely embarking on that territory, but now, she has claimed lovely ladyland as her own, and is WORKIN’ IT! She’s still very passionate about musical production, so it’s a blast to get the scoop on all of the current shows from her. I love my time with Corrie. If I could have a little sister, I would likely choose her. Betsy and Jerry, watch out. I just might steal her.
One of my favorite photographs ever. Ever. She is too cute!

Darling! She just reminds me of Judy Garland with her Toto.

I am so loving this moment. She’s a lady, but still a bit of a giggly girl.

Work it on out, sister!

Hello, smoldering! Her dad is going to have a tough time keeping the boys at bay!

Doing what Millie most loves to, Corrie twirls for the camera!

Thanks for a very exciting session, Miss Corrie, and I will see you soon…hopefully we can go to Legally Blonde together in Feb.!
I’ve known Corrie since the day she was born….You heard me - SINCE THE DAY SHE WAS BORN!!! What a treat each day has been to watch her grow up! Corrie, you are gorgeous, you are funny, you are brilliant!!! Kate, you SO captured Corrie…fab-u-lous!!!
Ahem….I’ve known Corrie since BEFORE she was born! She grows more wonderful all the time….and it’s so much fun to be surprised (in a good way) by her creativity. You got the “person” in your pics…Thanks, Kate! Jane
wow! killer shoot! love her dress in the last one. seems like such a fun client!
I love these! She seems like such a spunky, smart woman, and you’ve really captured that here. Love it!
Dash is 9 Months!
I have known this little guy know since he was 3 months old, and he has continued to grow and to delight me and inspire me. He is one of the happiest, most laid back babies I have ever met, not to mention most adorable. He loves his books, his farm animal toys, cruising around, and acting like he is the King of the Jungle in his crib. Can’t wait for him to run circles around me at our next session!

I love those big ol’ blue eyes!!! He is adorable.
These are sooo sweet! The dog in the mouth is the best - ever!
So, do you suppose Millie might one day consider a younger man? Were i she, these pictures would be all it would take. Wonderful.
He is such a sweet little boy! Love those big blue eyes!
He’s a handsome little guy–no doubt about it. What a beautiful little soul he is.
What an adorable little guy. He is so handsome and such a pleasure to be around. Thanks for bringing him to lunch. i love him. Gigi

Thank God He’s a Country Boy!
My brother, Joe is the most eclectic guy I know. He has the widest array of interests which includes but is not limited to world religion (specifically eastern religions), bovine genetics, The Beatles, TCU football, open-toed footwear, horticulture, any food that involves bacon, bees (yeah, I said it), and birds. He’s a nature nut, and owns and operates his own Brangus cattle ranch in Brenham, Texas.
You may be looking at me and thinking,
“How in the world is THIS chick—this indie-rock lovin’, Chanel earring wearin’, bohemian with a credit card and a foul mouth—related to the country boy???”
Well, let me back up a bit and say that we grew up together on a cattle ranch. Not only did we show cattle in livestock shows, but we even fed them and scooped their poop. I went on to have somewhat of a city life, scooping only Millie’s poop, while Joe’s heart was betrothed to the family land.
Last weekend, I had some photo shoots in Brenham, so I decided to camp out (both literally and figuratively) at Joe’s house. What an experience it was! Here he is today, doing what he does best. He breathes in the humid air as early as 5:30am, and relishes his opportunity to take in the serenity around him. I have never seen him calmer and more grounded in my life, so I know he is in the right place, and I couldn’t be prouder of him! I chose to wake up early last Saturday (NOT at 5:30am, thank you…I made him stall till 7) to work on my photojournalistic skills. This is the story I chose to show you guys!

That was so fun to watch! Beautiful pictures. Hey - and your brother looks so much like you!
Love the story…but what we really want are pics of you in Rocky Mountain Jeans!!!!!
You really captured Joe, Kate!!! Great shoot! What fun memories we had growing up on a ranch….in the country!!! You and Joe are truly such wonderful gifts, and I have been the fortunate recipient! I love you both so much!!! Mom
I’m gonna have to agree with Bobby on this one!!! I am having a VERY hard time wrapping my image of you (ubber-chic, Chanel-lovin’, Gucci-wearin’, super-talented, mom-extrordinaire, sexy-wife) around this past you are trying to portray as a country girl, poop-scoopin’, cattle rancher!!! Talk about a JUXTAPOSITION!!! I think your loyal bloggers are entitled to a pic or two of the cowgirl, Kate!!!
Hey Joe, Congrats on the news regarding your cattle. I heard bout yo herd…WAY 2 GO!!!!
Awesome shoot Kate. Brings back good memories. We were in Brenham last weekend and spent time on our farm. Nothing like getting back to the good ol’ life! Loved seeing Joe.
I miss Joe! He looks so happy…I am sure it is that good dose of the good ol’ life as you put it!
Joe looks like a regular animal whisperer. Those birds were literally eating out of his hands. You captured the countryside so beautifully, too. One of our docents at the museum asked where I was from, and when I told her Brenham, she said, “Oh, that’s god’s country. I grew up near Navasota.” Small world. Give my best to Joe.
[…] with you my pictures from Millie’s adventures at my brother’s ranch. You might remember my previous coverage of a day in the life of Joe. Millie loved getting HER turn at checking it all out, and I was so glad I was around to see it and […]
Robin + Jason :: Hitched!
Oh, how we laughed in the face of Hurricane Ike. There would be no slapping around that day, regardless of the name. Her name isn’t Tina, but Robin (the bride) was workin’ it like it was.
I love Robin + Jason…they are the sweetest most darling people and are a perfect match for each other!
Here are a few of my favorite frames from their wedding. Don’t forget to check out the slideshow at the very end!

Awesome work! I love how you did such a great job of capturing the rain - it really set the mood for a sweet, romantic day. I am also in LOVE with that shot of the groom pre-ceremony - incredible!!
You really did capture the mood in the story…very cozy!
truly amazing kate. love the way you see.
This is a wonderful set of pictures; i have returned to several of them more than once. For the o\moment (but ask me again later), my favorite may be the 8 happy feet. Or is it the R+J written on the window? Or the leaping flower girl? Or….? Lovely work.
Wow! Those are amazing. Nicely done!
Happy Birthday + Congratulations, Holly!
Happy Birthday to my dear friend Holly who just got engaged! Can’t wait to shoot the wedding!!!
I love you, Holly Jill, and am so glad we are homegirls. Also, thanks for introducing me to the love of MY life. No, not chips and queso…Bobby!
Thank you!! I have to say it was the best birthday to date!!! Love you guys!!!
Liza + Paul :: Engaged!
Last Sunday, Liza, Paul, and I went out for a little engagement adventure. I had so much fun wandering the streets, getting to know these two very original and unique people. Along the way, we dodged oncoming traffic, posed with bikers, nearly got run over by bikers, walked a tight-rope-like beam, scaled a wall, and made out in front of a cafe. Well, THEY made out in front of a cafe. I just took the pictures.
I adore this couple and cannot wait till November 15th for their big day!!!
We all loved the architectural details of this restaurant…so fun!

Oh, how I love catching grooms’ sidelong glances at their brides!

Paul is a great student. Liza is a great teacher. I see success in their future.

Isn’t it amazing how one beautiful little eye can tell the whole story? These two are soooo in love!

Aw yeah. Paul’s a badass and he knows it!

I can’t get enough of this hard lighting and shadows action going on.

Note to self: plaster this image everywhere.

Hot day-um!

When I look at this one, I feel like I know what they’re laughing about even though I haven’t a clue. Don’t you?

So sweet. There is something very Old Hollywood about this couple…she is the goddess and he is her protector.

LOVE this coupling of images. Liza is such a hottie and Paul’s expression announces that to everyone!

Favorite! I could squeal with delight over this cuteness.

I sure do love those “in-between” moments, and this is one I can get swept up in. Romantic!!!

Liza and Paul, thanks for a memorable afternoon.
I am ecstatic that you are my clients and my new friends. Muah!
Now tell me…which one is YOUR favorite image?
Awesome! My favorite is the secret-telling picture - so so so so cute!!
You keep knockin it out of the park, girl!
wow….how can you choose just one!!! these shots are AMAZING!!!!
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
I fell in love with this image as I took it. While I was processing it, my love for the subject overpowered my senses and I was unable to decide on a treatment for it. Instead, I decided that I preferred any treatment, so long as she was in the photograph.
Sigh. I love my Millie.

I want her! So adorable in all, though I think my favorite is the top right one! Those eyes, well, I think they are going to get lots of boys in trouble!
I’m a fan of bottom left. … or bottom right, or top left or even top right. She’s just so purdy! ![]()
Top left–light through the curls and dark blue eyes. They’re all stunning. Now let me see: was this gesture in response to her discovery that she is the only 3 year old female with a Gucci bag?!
Top left….that’s my girl!!! Nan loves Mills!!!
Wow! Do we love our Mills? OH YEAH!
She’s so stinkin’ cute! I love ‘em all ![]()
Cue Those Angels With the Trumpets
Mama’s got a brand new bag! Holla!

We need a pic of you with that bag — gotta know what’s in the box!
I’m loving the box and the ribbon. Mills has got great taste. Where’s the fab bag?
Don’t leave us hanging.. show us what kind
love me some Gucci!
LOL

inspiring and sobering. thank God for this man!
