Thank God He’s a Country Boy!
My brother, Joe is the most eclectic guy I know. He has the widest array of interests which includes but is not limited to world religion (specifically eastern religions), bovine genetics, The Beatles, TCU football, open-toed footwear, horticulture, any food that involves bacon, bees (yeah, I said it), and birds. He’s a nature nut, and owns and operates his own Brangus cattle ranch in Brenham, Texas.
You may be looking at me and thinking,
“How in the world is THIS chick—this indie-rock lovin’, Chanel earring wearin’, bohemian with a credit card and a foul mouth—related to the country boy???”
Well, let me back up a bit and say that we grew up together on a cattle ranch. Not only did we show cattle in livestock shows, but we even fed them and scooped their poop. I went on to have somewhat of a city life, scooping only Millie’s poop, while Joe’s heart was betrothed to the family land.
Last weekend, I had some photo shoots in Brenham, so I decided to camp out (both literally and figuratively) at Joe’s house. What an experience it was! Here he is today, doing what he does best. He breathes in the humid air as early as 5:30am, and relishes his opportunity to take in the serenity around him. I have never seen him calmer and more grounded in my life, so I know he is in the right place, and I couldn’t be prouder of him! I chose to wake up early last Saturday (NOT at 5:30am, thank you…I made him stall till 7) to work on my photojournalistic skills. This is the story I chose to show you guys!

Love the story…but what we really want are pics of you in Rocky Mountain Jeans!!!!!
You really captured Joe, Kate!!! Great shoot! What fun memories we had growing up on a ranch….in the country!!! You and Joe are truly such wonderful gifts, and I have been the fortunate recipient! I love you both so much!!! Mom
I’m gonna have to agree with Bobby on this one!!! I am having a VERY hard time wrapping my image of you (ubber-chic, Chanel-lovin’, Gucci-wearin’, super-talented, mom-extrordinaire, sexy-wife) around this past you are trying to portray as a country girl, poop-scoopin’, cattle rancher!!! Talk about a JUXTAPOSITION!!! I think your loyal bloggers are entitled to a pic or two of the cowgirl, Kate!!!
Hey Joe, Congrats on the news regarding your cattle. I heard bout yo herd…WAY 2 GO!!!!
Awesome shoot Kate. Brings back good memories. We were in Brenham last weekend and spent time on our farm. Nothing like getting back to the good ol’ life! Loved seeing Joe.
I miss Joe! He looks so happy…I am sure it is that good dose of the good ol’ life as you put it!
Joe looks like a regular animal whisperer. Those birds were literally eating out of his hands. You captured the countryside so beautifully, too. One of our docents at the museum asked where I was from, and when I told her Brenham, she said, “Oh, that’s god’s country. I grew up near Navasota.” Small world. Give my best to Joe.
[…] with you my pictures from Millie’s adventures at my brother’s ranch. You might remember my previous coverage of a day in the life of Joe. Millie loved getting HER turn at checking it all out, and I was so glad I was around to see it and […]
That was so fun to watch! Beautiful pictures. Hey - and your brother looks so much like you!
