It’s Only Been A Month Since Her Birthday…

Posted on October 31st, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

…and I swear she has grown a foot.

Millie is even more articulate, more compassionate, and more independent if that could even be possible.

She’s the brightest star I know.

Kate, I just LOVE how you talk about Millie, it always makes me smile, and feel like I know you two personally. You are such a good mama! And Millie is luck to have you as her mom. She is a doll! :)

Bad Hair Days Are Nuthin’

I knew this was occurring to some extent, but to see the photographs…oh, that just broke my heart.

Let’s hope the powers that be keep photojournalism alive and well, or those of us on this side of Earth may never truly know about all of the pain and suffering that exists.

Tate Financial Group’s 30th Anniversary Shindig

Posted on October 29th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Events

Last Thursday, I photographed an event for Bobby’s firm. His boss, Darrell Tate, has been in the financial industry for 30 years, and that is a reason to celebrate!
Darrell’s wife and daughter, Erica, spearheaded a group to plan this party, and I think it went beautifully. It was a warm atmosphere with comfort food and fun decor…you can’t ask for much more.

A special shout out goes to Emily Youngblood, the event planner for that evening, as well as Lite Dallas, Edwards Floral, and Gil’s Elegant Catering for their work in making the Cotton Mill shine!

Suzanne and Erica, Darrell’s daughters are the sweetest. This makes me wish I had a sister!

How gorgeous does Erica look? Smokin’! She works with Bobby and Darrell and is such a fun chick.

The details were so fun to shoot!

LOVE these lounge areas.

The moments were heartfelt, and there were several generations of McKinney’s leaders in attendance making them happen.

Millie made a card for Darrell and put it in his hand while he was talking to a VIP. She looks so proud. =)

They had a super cool hand rolled cigar station!

I have to end this post with bottoms up! What a great event!

Great people and a wonderful celebration! Thanks for capturing everything and for supporting me from my very beginning in the biz!

Samantha Warren Oct 30th, 2008 at 8:33 am

That looks like a VERY fun party captures by a VERY fun photographer! Seriously, people in Texas really know how to do it up right. And I think you are such a fantastic party photographer! Love the details.

Kate Oct 30th, 2008 at 11:34 am

I love Emily Youngblood!! She went to school with me at Austin College. I’m so glad ya’ll connected. She’s great.

Caroline is a Newborn!

Posted on October 28th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Babies

Sweet Caroline finally showed up to the party we call the Botto family. Ashley and Chris are so ecstatic and just watch her every move with baited breath. She is quite divine, I must say. With her big ol’ baby blues, and that peachy-pink skin, she could calm the ocean. Meet Caroline…you will be seeing more of her over the next year…Hooray for baby plans!

I’ve Been There

Posted on October 24th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Babies

I almost culled this image out of my final selection for Amber and Michael’s newborn session for Miss Audrey. One of Audrey’s eyes is out of focus, and it’s just technically incorrect. However, I just couldn’t get past the look on Amber’s face as she looks down at Audrey.

Why?

I’ve been there. I’m still there. I catch glimpses of my Millie eleventy billion times a day and she takes my breath away. It’s a subtle thing. No one else would notice but another mom in love with her baby. So, I am keeping this image in their stack, and I hope they treasure it forever.

Audrey is a Newborn!

Posted on October 24th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Babies

Amber and Michael were blessed with Miss Audrey Bliss earlier this month. If I do say so myself, she is one humdinger of a baby. She is so easy going, and makes the most adorable faces. Her lips are sure to rival Angelina’s, and those baby blues…move over Cameron Diaz!

Take a look at my inaugural session with newborn Audrey. There will be lots more to come!

Allergies, Schmallergies.

Posted on October 23rd, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

Did somebody lace my Mucinex with PCP or am I just going mental?

Allergies suck, medicine-head blows, and I totally feel like my head is going to pop off of my body and become a pink and purple striped heart-shaped Hello Kitty balloon and fly away to HypoallergenicLand…where it really longs to be.

Anybody feelin’ my pain?

OMG i TOTALLY have the same thing right now. Its a nightmare. My head feels like it will explode in like…5 minutes. Get well soon!

Stacy Oct 23rd, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Yes, yes, yes I am feeling your pain!

Lulu Oct 31st, 2008 at 11:39 am

Ummm… I think I can help you with that. Actually Matt can. I used to have at least 5 or 6 sinus infections/bronchitis every year up until Matt put me on all natural supplements and I haven’t had a single one for over a year. Even when I spent 4 hours with his grandmother as she smoked 2 packs of cigs right in front of me. You can look him up at ChalmersWellness.com if you want or send me an e-mail.

Katie :: Get On The Bus!

Posted on October 22nd, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Get On The Bus!

Miss Katie is about as classy as they come. She’s a senior at Lucas Christian Academy this year, and I predict great things for her future. Seriously, folks. She is more mature than I was at age 23. No lie.

Not only is she model-gorgeous, but Katie has a graceful ease about her that makes hanging out with her very enjoyable. She seems to be an old soul, and maybe that’s why I think she’s so darn cool. I can’t wait to see what she cooks up over the next few years…I know whatever it is will be good!

Love how she crosses her ankles in a shy sort of way.

What’s a better way to memorialize the construction of Downtown McKinney than to be photographed in the midst of it?!

Something about this next image just gets me. So darling!

katieashleyhairstrandscr.jpg

katieashleyhaytherecr.jpg

I am starting a project involving senior girls called “Label Alley”. High school is such a defining stage in life when we are coexisting with labels that we have been given since elementary school. During this time of identity examination, we either cling to those labels or toss them aside. I loved getting to know Katie through this process, and finding out what she thought of herself and what others thought of her. Not everything she thought of herself was in line with her peers’ image of her, and to me, that makes for a very interesting discussion. Discovering which labels are clung to and which are transcended and why will be a fascinating study that I’ve been craving for a while. (Just so you know, I used to be a Psych Prof, so this isn’t totally coming out of left field!!!) Good times.

Katie is absolutely stunning. Her personality just pops off of these pictures. Great job, Kate!

Chris Ashley Oct 22nd, 2008 at 6:41 pm

Dear Kate, Thanks for doing such a great job with Katie! You absolutely captured her. She had a great time with you.

Fantastic Job on the pics! I wish I was in Texas so I could get mine done….

Cindy Oct 23rd, 2008 at 8:32 am

Kate. Your label project sounds amazing! I can’t wait to see more photos involving your project. It could make a great coffee table book….or art show. I used to be an art teacher so when you are ready to set up the exhibit let me know, I’ve organized just a few. ;)

What Millie Said This Morning…

Posted on October 21st, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

“All the kids have to stay in California.  Yeah.  They do.  I went there last night with Daddy.  And then you came to the church to see me get married.”

Where is this coming from?  Oh, the girl’s got a wild imagination and might even be more creative than me.  Or, she could just be a three year old.

Either way, I love her to pieces and can’t wait for the next funny story she throws at me!

I agree that all the kids have to stay in California. Why would they leave?! And I also agree that you should go to the church to see Millie get married when that day comes. The girl speaks the truth!

Julie Oct 22nd, 2008 at 2:04 pm

Today Madison and I were discussing left and right as I was driving. She would call out which way we were turning, but she only got the left hand turns correct. I asked her why and she said, “Miss Julie, I only know which one is my left hand, not my right hand!!!” LOVE, LOVE, LOVE moments like that!!
