Need An Office? I Got One For Ya.

Posted on November 30th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

As some of you may know, I am a landlady.

Every time I say that word out loud {LANDLADY}, I imagine myself as an old spinster with a mustard yellow cardigan, orthopedic shoes, and a really bad haircut. However, before I get away from the topic at hand, I will forgo the descriptions of the fantasyland in which I live in order to mention the purpose of this post!

Here’s the lovely historic building that we own in Downtown McKinney (the one with the green doors).

107outside.jpg

Our upstairs tenants recently finished their term, and we are looking for a new batch of fun, professional people to move in.
If you know of anyone who is looking for a cool office in a super hot location (if you have been to Downtown McKinney lately, YOU KNOW how hot it is…that place is on fire!), send them to this link detailing the place on Craigslist:

THE BEST OFFICE SPACE IN DOWNTOWN MCKINNEY IS FOR RENT!!!!!

Thanks so much for spreadin’ the word…you peeps rock!

Oooh! Too bad I moved - it would make a perfect cake shop!
Looks darling! Happy Holidays Kate!

Samantha Warren Dec 2nd, 2008 at 9:15 am

Ok- I am coming to Texas. That is such a fun space, and I want to rent it! And with cupcakes and you near by, it sells itself! I’ll take a 10-year lease!

The Hilarious Heilers

Posted on November 25th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Families

Since I have already shown you Millie’s BFF, Sammy, once or twice, it would only be fair to show you the rest of her fabulous family. It has been such a pleasure becoming friends with them. It’s pretty cool when people are brought together and new friendships are started because of a couple of 3 year old girls.

One thing I love most about the Heilers clan is that they all have the same bone-dry sense of humor.
Gee, I wonder if you can pick up on that in these photographs?

heilerssillysammycr.jpg

Work it on out, people!

heilersgaragecr.jpg

Ok…I really think we need to all head over to the Heilers’ house to clean off a wall so that they can display this next series, and BIG.
Whaddya think? Who’s in?

heilerschildrencollagecr.jpg

This image says so much about them. Love it!

heilersshoescr.jpg

Kisses with cookie crumbs…what a delicious combo!

heilerskissescr.jpg

A definite contender for the Christmas card.

heilerscookiemonsterscr.jpg

How gorgeous are these children??

heilershideandseekcr.jpg

Finley is the King of the World. Yeah. I’m old, so I’m sure he doesn’t get that reference.
(Titanic for those of you who are still in the womb.)

heilerskingoftheworldcr.jpg

Such a fun family!

heilersantiquescr.jpg

Don’t you love it when kids just break out into song randomly? I know I do.

heilerssammysingscr.jpg

What a cutie. I’m definitely putting him on Millie’s potential suitors list.

heilersfinncr.jpg

I LOVE this one of Mandy and Eric. It is so them.
If they were any drier, we would see tumbleweeds and dust. And maybe a canyon and a cactus.

heilersfunnyparentscr.jpg

Thanks for the fun time, Heilers fam! It was an honor!

Millie and Her Homegirl

Posted on November 24th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

It’s Thanksgiving week, therefore, no school for the Mills.

She is missin’ her posse, especially her bestest homegirl Sam, like a muthah.

millsandsamnovember08cr.jpg

It’s Thanksgiving week, therefore, no extra work time for me since there is no school for Millie.

If you are expecting anything (a package, an email, a phone call, what-have-you), please be patient. Know that you are most definitely on my radar and that I have NOT fallen off of the face of the earth. I am still living with boxes (and apparently tiny field mice in the garage…so excited about THAT) and am trying to sort through everything on a daily basis…it’s just a little harder to do with a 3 year old hanging on me. ;-)

Misty, Madison, and Kennedy

Posted on November 24th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Families

Misty is THE BEST at what she does. She is a stylist at Salon at Eaton Court in Allen, and can I say it again? SHE IS THE BEST. Her haircuts last forever, and she is literally a cutting genius. My mom goes to her, as does my good friend Melanie, so if you want to join the posse of Misty hair followers, email me at kate@juxtaposephotography.com and I will give you her info!

Not only is she a great stylist, but she is a super mom to Madison and Kennedy, the cutest girls with the cutest curls ever! We had such a fun time playing around Downtown McKinney last week!

Lauren + Daniel :: Hitched

Posted on November 21st, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Weddings

Lauren and Daniel. Daniel and Lauren. I kinda wish they would get married every day just so I could photograph it. Their style, their love for life, their warmth, and their ability to be completely comfortable in their own skin make them one of the most beautiful couples I have ever met.

They were married on November 7th at Old City Park in Dallas in the most intimate ceremony I have witnessed to date. Gorgeous in so many ways, it was.

claydressandlipscr.jpg

One of my favorite prep shots I have ever taken. Yowza!

claymirrorcr.jpg

Daniel says, “I’m getting married. This is bananas!” (That means cool for the old people who didn’t get it.)

claybananascr.jpg

How insanely gorgeous are these shots of Lauren? I don’t think a bride can get more beautiful than her.

clayupstairscr.jpg

claylaurenandthesconcecr.jpg

Sweet! Love this lighting.

clayunderstairslightpcktcr.jpg

You know I have to incorporate chandeliers whenever I see ‘em.

claycandelabralalalacr.jpg

claydanielsnotecr.jpg

I adore this shot and that cute little birdcage veil. Lauren was rockin’ it like no other.

clayfixthehairandveilcr.jpg

How romantic, right?

claychapelcr.jpg

claycandlescr.jpg

Here comes the bride!

claykevinwalksherincr.jpg

Mom caught this sweet moment of Daniel with tears in his eyes.

claydanielceremonycr.jpg

So precious!

clayceremonylaughcr.jpg

I love how they always make faces at each other.

claycrinklenosecr.jpg

Modelicious, right? Thank God they are real people…just how I like ‘em.

clayformaltriocr.jpg

This is their ACTUAL first dance right after the ceremony.

clayrealfirstdancecr.jpg

These cupcakes greeted everyone at their reception.

claycupcakescr.jpg

claydancingfoolscr.jpg

Thanks Mom for this exit shot!

claypetalexitcr.jpg

Another favorite. Love the way Lauren is looking at Daniel and the taxi blur is suh-weet.

I Can See the Light

Posted on November 20th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

Whew. After last weekend’s move into our new house (and saying buh-bye to our old one) plus Liza + Paul’s wedding and the cold from hell, I can breathe again. I was buried deep under tons of boxes to open, furniture to put together, and a gazillion images I needed to edit. I have chipped away at it and can now see daylight, and it is beautiful. It’s name is Millie.

Bailey is a 1 Year Old!

Posted on November 19th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Babies

Time sure does fly. It’s pretty crazy that I have been photographing this family (and their relatives and friends and more friends) since before Bailey was even a notion. Then she was a tiny baby. Then she was half a year. Now, she runs circles around me and has actual style preferences. She even knows where to find the mustard. Seriously. When did kids get so smart?

baileyis1fridgecr.jpg

Like a true toddler, Bailey is loving getting into EVERYTHING!

baileyis1hosercr.jpg

LOVE this image. Those jeans are hawt, Katie!

baileyis1peekaboocr.jpg

Swingin’!

baileyis1swingincr.jpg

This was the first time that Bailey actually got the ring on the little ring stacker, and I caught it on camera! How fun!

baileyis1blueringcr.jpg

We went to their home away from home, North Park Center. Work it on out, Bailey!

baileyis1versacecr.jpg

“I’m pretty sure I need these,” Bailey thinks to herself.

baileyis1ineedthesecr.jpg

She was totally diggin’ these Ferragamos…me too! Girl’s got great taste.

baileyis1ferragamocr.jpg

Miss Bailey spotted a new form of transportation…

baileyis1dadlovesmecr.jpg

…the ESCALATOR! Lurve this shot…too cute!

baileyis1escalatorcr.jpg

This first frame is my choice for their Christmas card…I have a fabulous color version that involves bright red, but I’ll let them send it out to the world first.

Thanks for so many fun sessions, and I hope your move to Fort Worth won’t keep us from staying in touch!
I adore you guys and wish you the best of luck with this next chapter in your lives!

Caroline + Andrew :: Engaged!

Posted on November 18th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Engagements

Between Caroline, Andrew, and me, we know the entire state of Texas. SERIOUSLY. I cannot keep up with all of the connections that we have made, but the tie that binds goes back to the early 70s. Caroline’s adorable mom, Cary, and my adorable mom, Susie, were Zeta sisters and dear friends at the University of Texas…and so begins the story!

I grew up with Caroline and her brother, Taylor through Christmas card photos. I never met them, but I felt like I had known them my whole life. Due to life getting in the way, my mom and Cary fell out of touch for a few years until…SHA-BAM! I can’t even coherently explain how it all happened, but my BFF, Sarah Miller, brought us all together as Caroline was planning her wedding to Andrew. Long story short, I’m now photographing their nuptials and can finally consider Caroline a real friend instead of one that comes with a holiday greeting written in sparkles. She and Andrew are such an amazing couple, and I would love them if I met them on the street, despite our fabulous intertwined history.

So, these kids are just so cool. We had a blast of a morning session that started out in Austin at the Galaxy Cafe off of West Lynn. After french toast and eggs, we bopped around town, trespassed, got mixed up in the Race for the Cure, you know…just the normal Sunday morning routine.

caegalaxycr.jpg

caeropehimincr.jpg

I loved these murals! Such revelry goin’ on!

caerevelrycr.jpg

Seriously, I dare you to find a cuter couple. I could pinch their cheeks.

caescarftriocr.jpg

Oo la la! Love it.

caeredandbrowncr.jpg

When they are old and gray, I can guarantee that this couple will still be rockin’. They so belong together!

caerockin1.jpg

caehouse1015cr.jpg

caerockin2cr.jpg

At Moonshine, I had Andrew and Caroline stand outside of this window. We were chatting about where to stand due to the light, etc., when Caroline says, “That’s our table! That’s where we got engaged!”
Apparently, I had unknowingly selected a spot that was picture perfect in so many ways! THEN, the man of the couple that was seated there comes out to tell us we can use the table if we needed to. We told him the story of the proposal, and it turned out that it was that couple’s anniversary!!!
You gotta love the significance of this image!

caetheirtablecr.jpg

So stinkin’ cute!

caelogscr.jpg

Makin’ their getaway! This picture cracks me up.
Andrew has the BEST facial expressions and I about lost it while photographing this…

caegetawaycr.jpg

OMG, the cutest. Favorite! Love it times infinity.

Can you imagine a day without laughter in this relationship?
Hang on tight, Caroline and Andrew…you two have a beautiful thing!

OMG, Caroline, you are the CUTEST! What fun (understatement!!!) your mom and I had at UT….and now our daughters, you and Kate, have crossed paths. And Cary and I have found each other again. AND ANDREW!!! You are precious!!! I LOVE these pics…..Kate, what a story…what a shoot….what a capture of Caroline and Andrew’s love and laughter! You’re the best!!!

matthew Nov 20th, 2008 at 5:50 pm

Kate, beautiful pictures. You really captured their personalities as well as the infectious nature of their relationship. Way to go bro and ’soon-to-be’ sis! No spontaneous dancing sessions? Must be saving it up for the reception.

Terri Schwartz Nov 21st, 2008 at 1:40 pm

Kate, you are an artist. I loved looking at all of your shots. What an eye. I can’t wait for the wedding for us all to be together again, Caroline and Andrew are the cutest couple. What fun we will have. I have my dancing shoes ready. xoxoxoxTerri

[…] This darling couple cannot get any cuter. They just can’t, or the world might implode. Or explode. Or whatever the correct term is. I love them dearly, mostly for being sweethearts. The other reason I love them to pieces is that they are SO.DAMN.EXPRESSIVE. Everyone who knows them is well aware of their energy, wit, and positivity that could melt the likes of Simon Cowell. Seriously. If you haven’t had the wonderful opportunity to meet these two (although the entire state of Texas appears to have made their acquaintance at one time or another), take a look below at the best day of their lives. And I’m not just being positive like them. It was definitely top brass, baby. […]

Candice + Chris :: Engaged

Posted on November 12th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Engagements

Considering I have known the groom (Chris) since he was born, this was bound to be a session like no other. Not only are they practically family since they are from my hometown of Brenham, but Candice and Chris would easily be perfect clients for me if they were from Tokyo. Well, maybe not Tokyo…the whole language thing might get in the way, but you know where I was going with that.

They are good-lookin’, laid back, Austin-loving kids who can roll with the socialites or the hippies or the bikers. If that isn’t my kind of couple, I don’t know what is. We laughed and made general jackasses out of ourselves traipsing all over South Congress in Austin with our adventure consisting of me dropping Chris’s sunglasses in Lady Bird Lake (Town Lake for you old schoolers), nearly getting hit by 17 cars, and trying on wigs/moustaches/lobster hats. The fun never ends with Kate Mefford, people.

Check out our escapades below, and be sure to watch the slideshow at the end!

Chris proposed to Candice on the Congress bridge, so revisiting it was fun for all of us.

Wow Kate. These are fantastic….what an amazing talent you have. Chris and Candice said they had a great time during the session - which says a lot considering how awkward it can be! Can’t wait to see the wedding photographs.

Kate-these have far surpassed any of my expectations…not that I didn’t think I would love them but WOW! I must say that you are by far the best of the best considering that neither of us think we are the most photogenic of sorts, which is a big task in itself…and you should know that Chris and I plan to call on you many times over in the future! Thank you for such a wonderful time and we can’t wait to see the rest!

Candice Kocian Nov 13th, 2008 at 10:37 am

Kate-I have to say that you far surpassed any of our expectations, not that we didn’t think we would love them but…WOW! Chris and I couldn’t be any happier with the results! You really captured the essence of “US” and we are thrilled to have you as our photographer…and we do plan to call on you many times over! The VW Family

Posted on November 12th, 2008 by Kate. Filed in Families

While in Austin a couple of weekends ago, I squeeeeeeeeezed in this family so their darling (and gorgeous) mother, Jeannette, could have a photo for their Christmas card. We were a bit rushed since I was booked back to back and DARN that DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME, so I will finish their session after their rockin’ son Billy graduates from TCU (holla!) and is back home in January. Can’t wait to hang with these peeps again…they are soooo very cool.

Here are some of my faves!

Americana!

I am so loving this for their Christmas card.
It shows everyone together, but also in their own little worlds. Luke has his football, Jackie is chillin’ like a fashionable villain, Jeannette and Steven are lovey-dovey, and so is Billy with his girlfriend (and fellow Horned Frog), Megan.
