Wesley + Matt :: Hitched
Wow. I am not sure if I can really convey how I feel about this couple and their incredible families and their event in words. I feel like I am part of their tribe. They welcomed me with open arms since day one, and I have been so lucky to be a recipient of their warmth. It is true that I am friendly with the majority of my clients (meeting for margaritas never hurt nobody!), but with these guys, I think we will be real friends for a good, long time.Wesley and Matt “get it”. They totally trusted me, and when I say totally, I mean TOTALLY. From the engagement session to the Unbridaled session to the wedding day, their beautiful love story unfolded, and because of their trust, I feel I was truly able to capture things I may not have been able to at other weddings. Something is definitely to be said for people who are in touch with their emotions and who are expressive and allow themselves to be vulnerable in front of my camera and in my presence. Wes and Matt were and did all of the above, and I can’t thank them enough. I think the proof is in the pudding, below.I have also got to thank Sarah Miller and Amanda Barone from Caplan Miller Events for seriously ROCKING IT OUT. I have never been to an event with a smoother flow. Because of them, everyone had such a great time and the evening just clipped along. Sarah’s event design was so chic and sophisticated and set the scene for a super party. Thanks, also, to my mom, who was loving every minute of this wedding as I was. Your positive energy is truly inspiring.Other vendors that helped create this magical night are some of my absolute faves to work with. First In Last Out did the killer lighting and production…they are seriously the best in the entire state. Vella Events handled the floral aspect of the evening, and it was stunning. They used some of my most favorite flowers and totally killed it with the chuppah and reception decor. The Atlantics were frickin’ awesome, once again. I just can’t get enough of them! I got to meet a new vendor friend, Diane, from Crescent Video, who was the sweetest chick (and crazy talented). She made it super easy to work alongside her. Please go check out these vendors…they are seriously the DREAM TEAM.So, without further ado, I will release the motherload of images I have been obsessing over since I got back from Austin Sunday night.
BE SURE TO WATCH THE SLIDESHOW AT THE END OF THE POST…IT IS MUY ENTERTAINING!
Wesley’s older sis, Jessica, was such a cool chick to hang with!

Wesley checks out her basket-weave ‘do. Pretty impressive, no?

Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry! Don’t mess up that makeup, girl!

You’ve already seen her dress…it was super stunning.

Wes’ dad, Tom, sees her for the first time as a bride.

Wes sees HERSELF for the first time in a full-length mirror with all of the fixings.
She didn’t even get that privilege during her Unbridaled sesh.

This was actually inspired by one of my bridal portraits done at the Bellagio…she’s prettier!
I was ECSTATIC when I first found out that Wes and Matt were going to be seeing each other before the Ketubah signing and ceremony, so Sarah staged a meeting on the balcony of The Mansion.
Here is Wesley just waiting.

Here comes Matt!

Wesley sneaks a peek!

Bliss.

Just horsin’ around, cuz that’s what we do. It’s who we are.

Wesley writes her Hebrew name on the Ketubah.

Then, she wipes away her daddy’s tears.

Signed and ready to go!

Wes actually pointed out this moment to me.
Matt’s father is no longer with us, so it was sweet to see Wesley’s dad steppin’ in to make sure Matt looked just right.

The rabbi was straight out of a movie.

Wesley, her parents, and the flower girls waited to get to walk down aisle.

LOVE IT.

Favorite ceremony shot. Ever.
Look at how Wes is looking at Matt! Oh!

Can you handle the cuteness?

This wedding party was too much fun. When I said, “Get rowdy!”, they brought the rowdy.
Check out the flying yarmulke!

The excitement of having wedding bands was just running through their veins!

Something about this image takes my breath away.

Look at the amazing job that the vendors did in creating a magical atmosphere.

Wes and Matt waited, like a good little bride and groom, to be introduced.

They got down during their first dance!

Here comes the Hora!
It was my first time to experience it, and it was enough to make me want to become Jewish.
Matt deemed me an honorary Jew, right there on the dance floor!

Favorite toast image. Ever.
If Matt’s grandfather, Julius, ever needs a new granddaughter, sign me up!
He’s precious!

Wesley’s adorable sister, Erin, caught the bouquet.
Then, her boyfriend, Jason, caught the garter.
They’re next! They’re next!

Through a flurry of rose petals and snow, Matt and Wesley somehow found the stairs to escape.
And, they’re off!

To see the show, please click on the image below or this link! Then, hang on for a minute or so and let it load. Then, turn up your speakers and rock out!
These are so incredibly beautiful . . . stunning!
Gorgeous! Happy! Happy! Gorgeous!
girl, that toast image is the bomb!

Fabulous job, Kate! You obviously had a GREAT time with this couple and their family. Mazeltoff (is that how you spell it?) Love you.
These are fabulous photos! Just breathtaking! Nicely done!
Kate…..I have played and played and played the slideshow….over and over and over. You absolutely captured every single emotion in this celebration of love, life, and family! You are such an artist….your talent just blows me away! What a fabulous weekend! You’re the one!!!!!
Oh Kate! Each image is more beautiful than the one before it. My jaw kept dropping, especially at the ceremony shots which seemed a challenging lighting situation that you totally rose to. I am so proud of you!
Is 38 Images Too Many for a Blog Post?
I am trying to post Wesley and Matt’s wedding, but am having a super hard time narrowing it down. It was my first Jewish wedding to photograph, and there is just SO much that happens at such an occasion, that it is difficult to try to leave a part out.
Let me know…Yes or No…I’ll still love you no matter what.
Holla back…the sooner you let me know, the sooner I can post it!
Not 38 of YOUR images. I say post ‘em!
post ‘em all sista!
are you crazy?! Post em ALL!!!!
We want the whole “kaboodle” which I believe is yiddish for “You better post all them damn pictures, foo (in the voice of Mr. T)!”
Bring ‘em on!
Bring ‘em on!
Post them ALL!!! Its your blog and you should post however many you want
Plus I just want to see them!
Pretty please!!!! I’m absolutely DYING to see them! AHHH!
You better get to posting girl!!!!
Wesley :: Unbridaled
My favorite Unbridaled session yet. ‘Nuff said. Every picture is a favorite. The girl’s a rock star, a newlywed (just photographed her fabulous wedding over the weekend in Austin), and my new friend. Wesley is beyond vivacious and completely lights up a room. To top it off, she has a heart of gold. I have been DYING to put these images on the blog since the day I shot them, and now that her big day is over, I am letting the cat out of the bag. Me-frickin’-ow.
Love her!

She is so cute! Those look great. I especially love the ones under the silhouettes!
Oh my gosh, Kate! These are amazing! Thanks for doing such an amazing job this weekend with Wes’ wedding! I can’t wait to see the wedding pics! xoxo, Jessica (Wes’ older sis) ![]()
Kate, you and Wesley are the gas and the match!!! Spontaneity, laughter, emotion, beauty….you captured it all with your photographic flair. What an amazing artist you are….WOW!!!
You go, girlfren….!!!!
These pictures are fantastic! You look like a model in a magazine.
These are beautiful! The one through the window is a stunner!!!
beautiful!
OOOOHHHHHHH- EMMMMMMMMMMM- GEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! (OMG)! Seriously?!?! The one of her jumping on the bed?! so so so so so so so so great!
Sadie is 5 Months Old!
Sadie, Sadie, little lady. She’s so darling I could just watch her for hours. Really, how could anyone not want my job? It is pretty close to perfect, people. Photographing babies like Sadie is reality’s equivalent of being a candy factory’s Chief Chocolate Taster.
Sadie’s ‘rents, Kristin and Jeff, have created such a warm and cozy environment for her, complete with personal touches you will see below. Any dad who can handle a glue gun deserves twenty-seven snaps in my book! Loves it!
Not even half a year old yet, and Sadie is quite good at “getting into stuff”.

This takes me back. I can barely remember, without a reference like this, how small “size 3-6 months” actually is.

Kristin and Jeff MADE this bird mobile. It looks like it came from Anthropologie, no?

One of Jeff’s uber-talented relatives painted this mural for Sadie’s nursery.

I am so drawn to the lines in this one. Fly, Sadie, fly!

Favorite!

This blanket that Sadie is cozying up with was Jeff’s baby blanket. Say it with me, “AWWWWWW!”

Sadie likes to imitate the dogs’ panting.

Favorite! The dogs love their little sister.

Snow bunny!

If you haven’t gotten your baby some Baby Legs, you are missing out!

What a gorgeous child. Can’t wait for our next session!

These are great. Really captured what a beautful family Jeff, Kristin, Sadie, Tiger and Bailey make! I am so blessed to be a part of your lives. Love, Sami and Ryan
Oh my gosh, Kate - if I ever have a baby, you are taking it’s picture! These are amazing and the first and second pictures are ridiculously adorable!
Thank you! Thank you! These are gorgeous! Can we get on the books for every year from now until Sadie’s wedding?!
How beautiful! Sadie is precious and the artist behind the lens has captured it!
Oh my gosh! When can you come to MY house?? Those should all be in a magazine! LOVE IT!!
These are precious! I loved every photo. She is so adorable. I know you guys are so proud!
darling!
darling!
What a living doll!! How precious can one gal be?!
Oh my goodness!! She is quite photogenic! TD get your camera out and GO! Grandpa, GO! Thanks for including me in the blessings from this wonderful gift from above!!! Love and hugs.
im actually crying…so goofy, but the photog “got” sadie..snow bunny my fav, and i love all the serious, contemplative expressions; when i’m with her, she laughs all day! thanks for sharing…
Made me smile. Enjoy your little girl and treasure every minute.
How nice and fresh. I love the series with the dog and the composition and everything on the one under it
Wow we knew Sadie would be famous, the photo shots are wonderful .They capture the love and joy this family shares.love You .Granny Great and Marlin
These photos show Sadie’s sweet adorableness, and Kristin and Jeff’s love and joy, with remarkable passion. Where do we order prints?
I am in love with everything about this post! The little girl is adorable, the pictures are awesome, and I LOVE that mobile and the painting!!! Wow!
Sadie, my dear, you remind me so much of not only your daddy but your uncle James. Not only in physical looks but expressions. You are a beautiful baby. Pam
Sadie is so beautiful, like her Mom. So glad Rachel shared this link with me. God Bless your precious family.
Beautiful family!
Precious Sadie!
Thanks for sharing,
Kris

Karch is a Newborn!
I love word of mouth. How fun is it that one of my best friends (Holly—the chica who introduced Bobby and me) has a friend who worked with a girl who had a baby and needed photographs of said baby. So, new mommy called me, thanks to her former coworker’s friend, aka one of my best friends, Holly, and here we are. Didja follow?
Anywho, Heather and Jason are such sweet new parents who are completely infatuated and in lurve with their baby boy, Karch. And by the way, Karch is GORGEOUS. He is PRETTY. That feels weird, to call him pretty, as he is a boy, but he is OH SO PRETTY, you guys. Just take a gander and see for yourself. This girl does not lie. Homeboy is PRETTY. Go ahead and tell me I’m right.
When my BFF Sarah first told me over the phone that she was preggers with a baby boy, I was actually editing this image, and I almost started to cry with joy. I can’t wait for her little boy’s hand to grasp for his mommy to pull him tighter. Mmmmm. Baby love.

Those gorgeous lips are killin’ me. This job never ever gets old.
I am constantly surrounded by beauty in many forms!

Oh, somebody hold me.

Oh, kiss that baby!

Even Chico got in on the action. He loves his baby brother!

I think he’s picking his mommy a flower.

McLovin’ it.

Future Oklahoma State Cowboy? Could be!

Wrapped so lovingly in Heather’s baby blanket, Karch is just the sweetest little bundle.

Kate! I love them; you did such a great job capturing my precious K-MAN. Jason and I appreciate your gift and will cherish these photos (and photos to come) forever. I cannot wait to have them framed for the casa!
Thanks again!
What a little sweetie! He really is so pretty! I’m so happy for your new little family ![]()
I love them! Karch is a doll and everytime I have been around him he is just so chill! Can’t wait to see him grow up, and to see how you capture him growing through your images.
What a sweetie! Love these - they’re beautiful!
What a little sweet heart! Thanks so much for sharing the pictures, they are great:)
oh oh oh! yummy little man! I love the one of him grabbing his momma’s sleeve too! presh!!!!
That is a CUTE boy! Must take after his parents. LOL. Cool little dude, the Karch man.
You do not lie. (But we knew that already.) A beautiful baby (and parents) with the good fortune to be framed by a great photographer.
I love the family pic.No need for words. It speaks for itself.
thanks so much for taking such brautiful pictures of my baby Girls, baby Boy. I cannot visit them now, as I am so far away and it has been cold in Ky. Hope to see him in person before too long. Now I can really see how beautiful a young man he is. Thank You again, GGBurns
Such a wonderful shoot. They are all so beautiful. I think that is the blanket my Mother made for Heather when she was born. (I think Heather still sleeps with it but don’t tell anyone.) LOVE THE PICTURES. Thanks for capturing the real side of my sweet family. Cindy p.s. HE IS PRETTY!
I Love My Job So Much And Am Going Mental Because…
…a painter is touching up the doors to my home office version of the Anthropologie store and I can’t get in there to edit the gorgeous photographs of babies Karch and Sadie like I want to!
It’s one of those awkward things, like hmmmm. What shall I do with myself while Millie is sleeping upstairs and the paint guy (with whom I really don’t want to exchange stories) is taking his sweet-ass time in the doorway of my getaway? I could shop online, but that might be dangerous. I could return emails, but I’m already caught up. Any thoughts? Should I begin a research project? Try to become the next Tetris champion of the world? Bueller? Anyone?
EDITED TO ADD: I hung in there and eventually went into my office to edit those beautiful baby pics. The painter and I had delightful conversation about menial things, and ya know what? It didn’t hurt. Sometimes I just think I need to grow up and start acting like I am (*wince*) in my thirties.
Hah! I totally have moments where I realize I am in (*wince*) my thirties, and that I am truly a grown up now. Weird. I should totally still be able to act silly and avoid “adult” conversations if you ask me!
(*wince*wince*) i much prefer “hiding out” too! what is that all about?! there are days that I have to tell myself “Put on your big girl panties and GET OVER IT!” oh how I miss the days of my under-roos!
Alice’s Tea Shoppe
After Millie’s dance class, yesterday, we stopped off in Downtown McKinney for some lunch. We hit up (and by hit up, I mean smacked upside the head) Alice’s Tea Shoppe because what do our girls love to do more than have tea parties? The little ladies found the coat rack with dress-up items and madness ensued. Feathers were flying and water was spilling, but great fun was had by all!
Millie tried on a multitude of looks throughout the meal.

Sammy deemed this as her favorite.

Caroline was workin’ the whole French look.

I got one quick pic of the fabulous four before Cassidy grabbed Sammy’s toy camera and decided to compete with the big dogs.
The girl can direct better than most, and she is not even 4 years old. I was tres impressed!

Some of Cassidy’s direction resulted in this fine image (love my daughter’s gum hanging out…classy!).

My gorgeous, sunny, funny Millie.

Near the end of lunch, Sammy and Mills found the mirror that had been behind them the entire time. What hams!

Can’t wait to lunch again soon with you ladies!
I think those pictures are in my top 5 EVER! I love the one that Cassidy directed.
Millie is BY FAR your BEST creation! I love her spirit…she is SO your kid!! Love you lots!
what an awesome place. I think any little girl (with tons of spunk and imigination) would have a ball there. And it definitely looks likes these girls have all the spunk. Wonderful pictures and a very happy memory.
These are competing as some of my favs! Who couldn’t love these little ladies?
Those were the cutest freakin’ pictures I have ever seen!!!
2008 Was My Favorite!
The 2nd year of Juxtapose Photography was phenomenal. I got to meet and learn about so many wonderful people through the lens and face to face. I am the luckiest girl in the world, and here’s the proof! Here is the slideshow of all of my favorite images (both personal and professional) from this past year.
To see the show, please click on the image below or this link! Then, hold your horses for a minute or so and let it load. Then, turn up your speakers and rock and roll!

SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALICOCIOUS!!!! Love it, love it, love it!!! And you, too!!! Mom

Jeanette
Holy Moly! Beautiful.
LOVE it! looks like 08 was an awesome year. we’re looking forward to seeing you in 09 as audrey grows.
Awesome Kate! We had so much fun with you in ‘08! Looking forward to ‘09!
What fun! We loved every frame, the music, the talent you display. Most of all though, we love YOU, and MILLIE and BOBBY and the Noops! Congrats on a fabulous year and an even better one for 2009!
Thanks for keeping capturing all of this AND making 2008 not look like the “kick in the crotch” I thought it was!
I Don’t Want to Forget…
…all of the magic that she brings me. I don’t want to forget any little thing that she says or does. I don’t want to forget the silliness of some of her comments or her favorite books and toys and music and shows and dress-up clothes, or even the ridiculous things that swirl inside my head as I, too, am playing. I only want to remember, so I am going to write it down before it evaporates.
Mispronunciations
-breakfast = brecked-fess
-thanks = f-ganks
-reasonably = ree-zibly
-Sydney = sit-nee
-photographer = gatographer
There are many more, but I will have to add them in as I think of them, because they are fading fast.
She is much more articulate than the typical 3 year old.
Adorable Things She Does
-Everything she has (and everything YOU have) came from Paris. She got it “last week” with me/Bobby/Nanny/the Original Fancy Nancy (the nickname we have given to my grandmother who is in heaven whose name was Nancy…and yes, she was impossibly fancy)/or possibly someone who is very random like the Terminix guy or the lady down the street.
-She can do an equivalent performance to Kristen Wiig’s Saturday Night Live Target Lady…seriously. Her imitation is impeccable.
-A couple of nights ago, she invented a game called “Beanbag Squash”. All you do is run from Point A to Point B, and yell “Beanbag Squash!” at the top of your lungs. Rinse and repeat about 30 times until you are tired. In high school on my basketball team, we called those suicides. Luckily, she still thinks running is fun.
-Every time we comment on something that we like, she’ll ask, “Is that your favorite?”
-If we ask Mills a question and she doesn’t know the answer, she says, “Tell me!” in her best Southern accent.
-She loves my Kenneth the Page bobblehead as much as I do.
-Millie actually does this thing called “The Wedgie Dance”. Not sure where she learned this from, as I can promise she has never seen Bobby or me do it. She will give herself a wedgie and proceed to shake her booty, yelling “Wedgie Dance! Wedgie Dance!” Should I be concerned?
-She has a killer fake laugh, fake cry, and fake sneeze. The kid belongs in Hollywood.
-She still talks about Yogerson, and now Yogerson’s baby sister, Gala. Presumably, she was named after the Mefford family’s favorite apple.
-Millie is a hugger. I hope she never outgrows it.
-She never gets mad at Bobby and me when we question the integrity or values of her picture books’ storylines . What a trooper, because we seriously give those books a beatdown. Like, honestly, where the hell is Cousin Henry’s mom in the Angelina Ballerina stories? And why doesn’t Fancy Nancy’s sister have a name? Is she just that plain? And how about the fact that…you get the idea.
-Her favorite food is edamame. She eats it like a little lady.
-Millie has a steel trap for a memory which is both incredibly amazing and scary (especially if you do or say anything stupid in front of her) at the same time.
-Most of all, she is a gorgeous child who has the most brilliant spirit I have ever witnessed. I’ll keep her.
Here are some frames from our Rice Krispies Treats experience a few mornings ago.

Happy Monday, and hug the ones you love!
so sweet…love it!
Your love for that little girl is inspiring. Thank you. ![]()
This makes me love her even more, and I have never even met her.
I seem to recall last night that she has a killer fake yawn. Very well executed.
I love FANCY NANCY!!!! That is the first book bought Lillie Bean! I wrote in it that I couldn’t wait to teach her about all things FABULOUS & FANCY!!!!
She is absolutely beautiful. Really, a doll. You are so blessed (which you know!) and I love reading all the little stories about her and her amazing thoughts so always keep them coming (which I’m sure you will)! ![]()
So cute! I’ll see if I can get any “inside” scoop on Nancy’s sister!
And oh my gosh, I have the privilege of being one of Millie’s grandmothers!!!! I treasure each moment we spend together…and Millie lives just up the hill from my house. How much fun is that???? Did I mention that every wonderful child has wonderful parents? Bobby and Kate are the most wonderful and loving parents around….and might I add lots of fun, too!!!
I think your daughter and mine are cut from the same cloth! The wedgie dance….are you SERIOUS! That is hilarious.
What a special little girl! I too started journaling and I have already enjoyed going back and reading some of the funny things that the kids say and do. I really want to get Hudson and Millie together soon. THey would have a lot of fun. Give your mom a hug for me.
ahhhhh. my heart just melted. oh how i pray that i have that precious relationship with my sterling- I have it with chandler and it is greatness! isn’t mommy-ness fantastic?!
Thanks for all of the love you bring into my life!
In my 68+ years I’ve known 1000’s of people all over the world and yet, Millie at the age of 3 is in my ALL Time Top Ten!!! Love you, Pa
Wow.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.
I am not sure if the world is becoming more active or if I am becoming more aware in my old age, but MAN is so much stuff going down right now or what?!
Click on this sentence and check out today’s photo journal entry from Wall Street Journal.
What is the current event that you are most fascinated with at the moment?
i couldn’t open the link, but i’d have to say my latest concern (heart attack) was watching “chairman” barney frank say on television that they had no control of how everyone spent THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY BILLION (of our) dollars. Ummm…. seriously. I cannot take the arrogance, and flagrant disregard.
And I also can’t stop thinking about the Travoltas.
on that note, happy thursday my friend!
did i tell you that your C card was one of the best i’ve ever seen?! jealous!
i hope we get to see each other soon! xo
So many things going on. WOW is right!! I think I am most fascinated by humanity in general and realizing what an incredibly diverse planet this is… That sounds like such a cliche statement, but I really mean it. And just saying incredibly diverse is an understatement…
I can’t believe B and C are close to hooking up on Gossip Girl!
oh yeah, and that heidi and spencer got married.
Kate,
These pictures are absolutely unfreakin-believable! You are such a talent, and Wesley is so blessed to have had YOU shoot the wedding. I’m obsessed with you—I bow down to you! You captured each moment so beautifully and perfectly. I still can’t get over it!
Thanks again.
Jessica
