I Was Country, When Country Wasn’t Cool

Nashville had quite a bit more swagger than Franklin did, but that was to be expected. Only the most swaggering-est folks have written lyrics to make or break hearts, strummed their guitars (or smashed them into smithereens) onstage, and drank and ate themselves silly until the wee hours of the morning in this great city. And that’s just one part of town. I’ll have to go back to cover the part of town that makes me want to put on a hoop skirted dress and a bonnet and have people bring me lemonade on the biggest front porches I have ever laid eyes on…or made eyes at. Impressive. And there is still so so much to discover.

For now, I’ll take you through what I saw in Downtown Nashville. What a glorious place!

Bobby’s dad, Pete, took us to the Ryman Auditorium—the original site of the Grand Ole Opry.

Taylor Swift, who?
Millie Mefford is the next biggest thing…at least in HER mind, she is.

This one haunts me, or gives me some sort of jolt when I look at it.
It gives me such joy to see my baby hold a pew where the greatest country and rock acts have performed.

This was where Pete sat, when he was 8 years old, watching Hank Williams perform.

Oh, my man, Johnny. Loves me some Cash.

What I would give to see a performance here at the Ryman

Outside of the Ryman, street performers follow their dreams.

One of my favorite street photographs.

And, I’m burned out on blogging for the time being.
Let me have someone fetch me a lemonade and I’ll try to muster the strength to show more. ;-)
