Jenny + Chris :: Engaged!
Next on the list is the fabulous couple Jenny + Chris. Sweet Jenny hails from TX, but while traveling and studying in Prague, met the charming Irishman, Chris. During a long distance relationship across Europe, they fell madly in love with each other, and eventually Jenny made it over to Ireland to be with her guy. (Who could resist that accent?!) After growing together in Ireland, they have literally JUST moved to Texas, and will be married in October in Austin.
A few weeks ago, on one very hot Austin evening, Jenny, Chris, and I met up at the Hotel Saint Cecilia in SoCo for an super cool bohemian engagement shoot and had a (as Jenny would put it) “lovely” time getting to know each other. Feast your eyes on the results!

Nosers!

These cruiser bikes were so rad.

I adore these next 2 images! Double favorites!

Chris has a hearty laugh that is very contagious.

Favorite!

We all loved these vintage trucks!

Playin’ a little footsies!

LOVE these two.

Such a sweet way to end the session. I can’t wait for their wedding!

Much love to you J+C, and I am sure we will chat soon!
Great location. Love the housekeeper in uniform going upstairs in the background, the b&w stripes and that southern light you got at the end.

Svetha + Chase :: Engaged!
This has definitely been the year of clients hiring me over email and phone from all over the world, and Svetha and Chase are the perfect representatives of that. Currently living in Beijing, China, Svetha and Chase grew up in the same neighborhood in Austin. They went to the same high school, and didn’t even hang out until after college! Chase says Svetha was the gorgeous popular cheerleadery type, and he was, well, not. However, if there was a popular table for almost twentytothirtysomethings, Chase would be at the head. He makes his sweetheart (and his photographer…seriously, I was laughing so hard I was shaking the camera!) giggle till she climbs out of her pretty shell and she offers a calming presence to his bold flavor in return. They are the perfect compliment to each other, and I couldn’t be more excited to photograph their 2 day Hindu wedding in a few weeks!!!
For the first part of their engagement session, we took their dog, Lola, down to the greenbelt area that is in the neighborhood in which they were raised. Talk about gorgeous Austin landscapes…this did not disappoint. We got their around 7:15am, and the light was incredible!

Gorgeousness!

Favorite!

Love that blanket.

Millie would call this “nosers”.

So cute!

Something about that strand of hair swooping just gets me…

This is right where Chase proposed!

Chase definitely brings out the “silly” in Svetha!

Trust the rock climber, S. He’s got ya.

Their first house together! Just jokin’.

Love! Love love love!

Can’t wait till August 16th & 17th! It is going to be unbelievably amazing!
Thank you Kate. You were such a trooper as we got you out so early in the morning into the greenbelt. We had so much fun taking these pictures with you. Hugs!
I love the last one!! The light is beautiful!
cute session kate! love the colors and feel to it!
Love them all! That last one is steamin hot!
These are so cute, Kate. Makes me want to be a kid again. We had some tree houses around our neighborhood. They were the best for getting into mischief.
Heather + Chad :: Engaged
I absolutely cannot wait till August 1st. Why? I get to photograph the so-bubbly-she’s-effervescent Heather (Taylor’s sister) and the charming gentleman Chad’s wedding!
Take a gander at their engagement session…we had such a fun little downtown Dallas adventure together and I think these images fit them to a T. Darling! I could have hung out with the for hours, but, uh, it was 96 degrees. Maybe sometime soon we can go out for ‘ritas and stay inside!
Just chillin’ in their living room…
E is for Eby! (Heather’s taking Chad’s last name.)
Oh, this has to be one of my all time favorite engagement shots. Ever.
Love it!
Love it again!
Precious! Is it August 1st yet? Come with it, already!
Thank you Kate for capturing my hubby-to-be and I! We love the pics and had a great time, despite the heat! Can’t wait for you to be a part of our special day.
I love the “living room” shot! Very cute couple.
Kate, each time I take a peek at these, I love them more. You are fabulous and make this MOB proud!
gotta’ love the bulldog picture!!!!!!!
they are all great…..but i love me a cute little bulldog face!!!!!!
Elaine + Adam :: Engaged
The beautiful bride whose session was so unbridaled that I busted my knees and broke a lens on some trolley tracks…that would be Elaine. My interactions with the sweet Elaine will go down in history, no doubt. As I sit here typing this post, I now have poison ivy covering said knees. Yeah, during Elaine and her darling fiance Adam’s engagement session, I must have engaged in some activity with a poison ivy plant. Good times. But really, it’s pretty hilarious if you think about it…minus the itching. I am such a clutz!
Anywho. Forget about me and let’s chat about how freakin’ cute these two are. We spent a muy caliente afternoon together and had a blast playing despite the heat. Elaine and Adam are very laid back and super enjoyable to be around, and c’mon. They made me a mix tape (well, a cd, but I like to call it a tape cuz it’s more fun), folks. How sweet is that? Ya gotta love ‘em!
Elaine and Adam are getting hitched in the Outer Banks in North Carolina in August, and I can’t wait to photograph it all.
We are gonna have two tons of fun!

These two know how to play!

I think this is where I got my poison ivy.
Thank you Stonebridge Country Club.

Snuggle up!

Hello there!

Wow. Their love radiates as powerfully as the sun on a summer afternoon in Texas.
Well, I could just be having flashbacks to that very hot afternoon, but I’m 99.9% sure it is their love.

Big hugs to you, Elaine + Adam!
See you soon, and thanks for the mixed tape!
Kate, I must be bad luck. You busted your knee, camera, and got poison ivy while working with me. I hope the wedding is more smooth for you! Thanks for capturing our HOT love ; )
love the one with the lights hanging above them!!!!!
they are all great!!!!!!
Elaine’s Grandma likes the silhouettes on the hill, but all the pictures are wonderful — almost as wonderful as those two are.
Beautiful! You will love NC and the OBX!
You are so cute together. I love seeing you two in pictures.
You picked each other perfectly, a match made in heaven!
May you love each other for ever and ever, till the end of time.
Leah + Corey :: Engaged!
One of my favorite-est girls in the whole wide world is Leah. I have known her for too long to put into numbers. Her older sister, Jana, and I were best friends in high school, and Leah was often our hilarious jester-like third wheel. Over the years, Jana went her way, and I went mine. No hard feelings between us, but we just kinda grew apart, I guess. I suppose the reason Leah and I kept contact is that we have a load of similarities, and that seemed to bring us back together. For instance, we speak the same language. No, not English. Blunt-ish. Sassy-ish. Dry sense of humor-ish. Sarcasm. We both possess personalities as big as the moon and have hearts that are also about that size. So…that’s Leah.
Now for my blurb on Corey. I’ve known Corey since I was in 4th grade. When he moved to Brenham, I totally had a nerdy little crush on him, and now L + C won’t let me forget it, much to my dismay. He’s such a laid back guy who treats his mom and grandmother and of course, Leah, like queens, plus he just loves to horse around and have fun. He’s true blue loyal and that kind of guy that everyone likes. You can’t NOT like Corey.
Together, Leah and Corey are ying and yang. They work. It is like they have always been together. I never could envision what type of guy Leah would marry, but Corey completes that picture so perfectly, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic to be a part of their big day! I love them!
To start their engagement session, we went out to the ranch where their wedding will be held. I got giddy upon arrival at the hills and the fences and the pond complete with old boats and a wooden pier and don’t EVEN get me started on all of the cool trinkets laying around the ranch house. From there, we went to one of my fave little towns, Round Top. I hadn’t been in ages, but was so excited to make this the backdrop of their images. Round Top’s atmosphere is so wonderfully slow-movin’ that I wish I could soak in it for days on end. You’ll see. Check it out!

Smoochin’ in the ranch house.

Leah has the BEST. LAUGH. EVER.

Say it with me, “Awwwwww.”

We had to stop by my buddy Tara’s family’s cafe for a bit.
Anybody who is into food is surely aware of The Round Top Cafe.
Next time I’m in town I’ll hafta see if Miss Tara will let me photograph some goodies for the blog!
Favorite! These kids are the cutest!

So sweet!

Millie thinks this is Leah’s car now.
She keeps asking why Leah glued all of those pennies to her car.

Ohmigaaaaaahhhhh. I just really love these with this car. All of ‘em!

Love you, Leah and Corey! I cannot wait until October!!!
I absolutely LOVE the pictures!! I am SUPER excited about the wedding and to see more pics!! Kate, you did an AMAZING job!!
KATE-O!!! You managed to make our ever-annoying little sidekick look great. Just kissing sissy!! You always were, are, and always will be gorgeous, no matter how much Kate airbrushes!! Really, Kate these are awesome! call me 251-2646, we don’t have to be grown apart anymore!!!
ok, i swear that we are connected in some weird way, cause i am DYING to go to round top. D.Y.I.N.G!!!! have been for years, and yes…. this makes me want to go MORE! love the ones with the car- you know i think any photo that includes weird junk AND a sombrerro simply MUST be fantastic! ![]()
Katie - these pictures are fabulous! In fact, I have never seen better pictures of Corey. Of course, Leah and her dimples were made for the camera. I couldn’t agree more about the ying and yang. As corny as it sounds, they do complete each other. Thanks for being a part of their engagement and wedding. And I just have to add - YOU had a crush on Corey in 4th grade? Can’t wait to see you and the family in October.
These are great Kate!
Absolutely adorable. You guys are so much fun, Miss you!
hey kate!! thanks for the plug!! love the foto’s…you rock. next time you can switch the sign to open if you want! hope to see you in the cafe. xo

Carissa + Luke :: Engaged!
The diplomat and the rocket scientist.
Literally, I have never known individuals with such genius-status careers. It was intimidating to meet up with them 2 days before their wedding day, never having met due to Carissa living in DC and Luke in California. I was sure I would come across like an absolute idiot in comparison, but no. They were completely cool and fun and spontaneous and fascinating without even a stitch of a better-than-you attitude. In fact, they were gracious, warm, and instant friends. Love them!

Carissa’s boots were too fabu!

Hello, hotness!

So darling! I love this one times a thousand!

Deirdre + Eric :: Engaged
Can you say BEACH WEDDING? In St. Augustine, FLORIDA? Am I ready? Oh, I think I am VERY READY. For instance, I know there are only 18 days left until this BEACH WEDDING. In St. Augustine. FLORIDA. What is the cherry on top? Is there one? Hell yes, there is one. Actually, there are two, and their names are Deirdre and Eric. Not only are they so stinkin’ in love with each other, but they make me laugh, so it’s a total win-win all the way around.
Check out some of my faves from their engagement sesh in Dallas. I gotta thank Tim Russi, the owner of Tipperary Inn (and an invited guest at the wedding and good buddy of D + E), for letting me schlep all over the bar with this lovely couple.

Hot!

Carlie + Tom :: Engaged!
These crazy kids are getting hitched this weekend in Fredericksburg (starting off with a bang of a rehearsal dinner in Luckenbach, Texas). Since Tom has been in Iraq until now, we barely managed to pull off a mini-shoot last weekend. I am so glad that we did, because we had such a blast traipsing all over South Congress Avenue in Austin, making sure that we were good and bonded before their big day.
Can you feel the love? Favorite!

They take my breath away.

Sarah + Ben :: Engaged
”The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.” — Picasso.
Though I love people of all shapes, colors, sizes, and personalities, I feel most at ease when I am amongst kindred spirits. Sarah and Ben are also artists, and there is something comforting knowing that they understand that need to create and to express, just as I do. Sarah, long legs and a heart of gold, is a beautiful dancer who moves through life with the grace of a gazelle. It’s no wonder why heartthrob and musician Ben, with the warmth of the sun in his smile and a voice sent from the heavens, is so enamored with her. These kids are about to graduate from SMU, and will embrace the real world by each others’ sides come May. I can’t wait to see what Sarah and Ben end up doing…whatever it is will be fabulous!
We hung out for a bit inside Bubba’s, a comfort food cafe near the SMU campus.

Are they the cutest or are they the cutest???

Adorable.

Striking, aren’t they?

Sarah and Ben twirled in front of the building they spend most of their time in on campus.

The way Ben dotes on Sarah is precious.

I almost died and went to heaven when this European chick with a rad orange scarf came up to get something out of one of the lockers. You guys know how I LOVE other people in my portraits. She was quite confused when I asked her to stay for a second!

Okay, so admittedly they ARE both amazing models to work with even if I am biased as Sarah’s mom! But you are an amazing professional! I have so enjoyed perusing your galleries on your website and enjoying the fun soundtrack that accompanies each set. You capture people SO authentically and yet in such unique, artistic ways, Kate. I absolutely love your work!! These photos and the wedding pics will be cherished in our family and in Lakeland, FL for many decades to come!
Grateful for your giftedness,
Jan

Wow! Wow! Wow! Kate, these are really, truly, deeply stunning. Yes, Sarah and Ben are a beautiful couple, but you captured not just how they look, but how they feel together, and how it feels to witness that. The BW in the diner at the top of the post is THE shot- can you say CANVAS!!!

Darrah + Jared :: Engaged!
These two crazy kids are getting hitched in Punta Cana in a couple of weeks, but wanted to be sure to be captured first in their state of engagement! Darrah knows a girl who knows Candice of Candice + Chris, so she called me up last fall and got on the books. I am so glad she did! Darrah and Jared are sweetly sarcastic, which is right up my alley. They are cute as buttons and are so easy to hang out with and that makes me really sad that I’m not able to photograph their wedding.
I’d like to hit that. That’s what she said.
(Please note the pinata. I am not crazy, but am crazy funny.)

LOVE the expressions here! What super light and color!

Hilarious.

Very Parisian cafe, no?

Sweet and unfussy, just like them.
